When creating your perfectPokemonteam, you’ll find yourself gravitating to the cooler, legendary, and mythical ‘mons. After all, having them shows how awesome a trainer you are. But before you start exploring game-restricted areas, ask yourself this: should youreallybe using legendary and mythical Pokemon?

Chances are, these Pokemon have better things to be doing than winning you the Champion title and a cash prize. They have people to protect, environments to maintain, and will probably destroy your opponent. Literally. So, before you go chucking Master Balls, here are ten legendary and mythical Pokemon that you should really never actually use in battles.

10Victini

Having Victini feels like a cheat code. That’s the only reason why they are on this list. A mythical Pokemon that is said to guarantee victory to any trainer who uses them in battle? That’s not even a fair fight!

Sure, winning is nice, but don’t you think you’re being unfair to all the people and Pokemon who put in the time and effort of training? Perhaps it’s best if you release Victini so that everyone can have an equal chance at becoming the very best.

9Groudon

Legend says that Groudon is the creator of all the continents in the Pokemon world. Groudon’s burning heat evaporated the waters and led to land expansion (and a very annoyed Kyogre). They helped create the world as everyone knows it.

So, it begs the question: is capturing the Pokemon that literally created the earth you walk on necessary for your adventure? Additionally, what if there’s a natural disaster and Groudon is needed to help save people? They won’t be able to do much saving if they’re in your PC.

8Kyogre

If Groudon brought the land, then Kyogre broughtlots and lots of rain(which led to ocean expansion). Just like how you shouldn’t use Groudon in battles, you shouldn’t capture and send out Kyogre either.

Without Kyogre, the oceans will dry up, the crops will suffer, and the people will become alarmingly dehydrated. Plus, what’s going to happen if you lose Kyogre? How are you going to explain to everyone that the lack of water is due to Kyogre fainting after being hit by an Electric attack?

7Zygarde

Environmental pollution in the Pokemon world is more likely than you think. This is why Pokemon like Zygarde are very important and should not be captured. Zygarde’s main function is to ensure the Kalos region’s environment stays healthy.

If anyvillainous organizationtries to harm the ecosystem, Zygarde will know. However, Zygarde can’t do any protection if they are stuck in your Master Ball. And let’s be honest, do you really want to be the reason why the Kalos ecosystem fails?

6Yveltal

Yveltal is the mascot Legendary Pokemon from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Specifically, they are the “Y”. And what a terrifying Y they are. According to their Pokedex entry, Yveltal can suck the life out of anything that breathes.

That’s right, Pokemon and humans alike can meet their untimely end if Yveltal decides that they’re not feeling so good. Can you imagine sending out Yveltal and knowing what will happen when their health slips into the red? Definitely not the best Dark/Flying type to bring to the World Championships.

5Genesect

What’s worse than a pesky bug? How about a once-extinct bug, known for striking fear into its enemies, that has a cannon upgrade thanks to an evil crime syndicate? That’s what Genesect is.

A combination of a past Pokemon with future technology, simply knowing that Genesect has a cannon spliced into its very being is enough to send shivers down your spine. Releasing Genesect probably isn’t the best idea, but keeping this known hunter on your team and then making them fight Bug-catcher Timmy? That’s just mean.

4Diagla

Dialga is known as the Temporal Pokemon and is the creator of time. Can you imagine how scary it would be to have the creator of time on your side? Sure, you’re able to hypothetically rewind yourself if you mess up an important battle, but what happens if Dialga faints? Does time stop forever?

How are you supposed to get to the Pokemon Center if you’re frozen in place for all eternity? Have you not seen the bad future fromPokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky? Yeah, release Dialga. It’s for the best.

3Palkia

If you thought Dialga was bad, wait until you see their counterpart, Palkia. Palkia, known as the Spatial Pokemon, has control over space itself. If that doesn’t make sense, then all you need to know is that Palkia can manipulate space and go anywhere they want to. They can even hop over to other dimensions.

However, that does imply that if Palkia becomes Confused in battle, they could send you and your team to another world completely by accident. Maybe, just maybe, you shouldn’t use this Pokemon.

2Giratina

Why in the world would you keep Giratina? Giratina, literally called the Renegade Pokemon, was said to have been exiled from the Pokemon world because they were too brutal. So, why would you choose to throw this guy out on the field?

One wrong move, and you could accidentally trap your opponent in the Distortion World. Or Giratina might choose to disobey your commands and send you away. Forever. If that does happen, pray thatyou have your professor on speed dialso that they can help you out.

1Arceus

Yup, Arceus is number one on this list. Why, you may ask? Well, maybe it’s because this Pokemon is the creator of the entire universe. Meaning that you probably shouldn’t use them in battle lest they get upset over losing and reshaping the entire universe again.

Yes, losing sucks and is painful, but it’s not world-ending. All you need are extra revives and potions, not a Pokemon that can recreate everything that they hate. Geez, Generation 4 sure had a lot ofPokemon deities.
