Gold might seem like it’s found in abundance inDiablo 4, but the truth is that you may never have enough. Everything costs so much money, especially the higher tier gem upgrades, armor upgrades, and visiting the Occultist. Even making potions will cost you a lot down the line, and you’re going to wish you never spent money on the town vendors.

So, what do you do about it? You can grind dungeons and world bosses regularly, or you can take the easier route and just be careful about what you spend your money on and how you spend it.
6Weapon Vendors
This can be a bit hit or miss because there is a small chance that you’ll find a better weapon at the weapon vendors, but it isn’t a very high chance. When you can make legendary gear, and pull weapons from chests, events, or enemy drops, you will never be short of something good.
Of course, Diablo builds and gear are all about finding the right weapon regardless of what class you play. Eventhings like Druid Companionsare affected by your weapon (although it isn’t to a major degree), so having a good one is important. You might be tempted by a weapon that has a green plus from a vendor, but chances are you’ll find a better one in a drop pretty soon.
If you’re desperate, go ahead and buy one with Murmuring Obols rather than your hard-fought and won gold that can go toward better things.
5Armor Vendor
You will always find the best armor when you’re fighting enemies (especially when you’re progressing through the campaign). Bosses and dungeon chests are far more likely to drop high-quality armor, and even Legendary Armor than the armor vendors are to carry it.

In fact, you more than likely will never see an armor vendor carrying Legendary armor for you to buy, and the rare items that they have in stock will cost far more than they’re actually worth. You will be wasting your hard-earned gold if you spend it on armor in town, especially because you are so much more likely to find something better by exploring. If you really want to buy armor, stop at one of the Murmuring Obols dealers.
4Combining Every Gem In Your Possession
Gem upgrades are a struggle to get your hands on in Diablo 4 because they only come every 20 levels or so, so there will be a decent chunk of the game where you’re just collecting gems that you really can’t do anything with. Considering that you can unsocket gems without destroying the socketed item in question, you can reuse gems as many times as your heart desires.
This means that you don’t have to constantly be combining every gem that passes through your inventory before inevitably ending up stashed away until you get your next socketed item. With that in mind, there’s no real need to combine every single gem you get your hands on because it gets expensive very quickly, and you will have no money before you’ve even come close to combining it all into one massive gem.
So, with that said, don’t do it. Save your money instead, so when you do hit that next gem upgrade, you’ll have enough money to combine at least two or three together.
3Horse Gear
You get a horse at the beginning of Act Four, at which point you can start buying new looks and skins for your horses. These are all, for the most part, a complete waste of gold. Nearly five million gold just for a saddle is way too much, no matter what stage of the game you’re in.
If you want that kind of gold, you’re going to have to grind for hours on end, and even then, you might not get enough. Even when you’re level 100 you’re probably going to be grinding so you can do some of the final gem upgrades, which will drain your wallet dry, so passing over gems for horse customization is not the best choice.
Yes, it’s fun to have a nice horse with custom gear that you can tromp around Sanctuary and show off with, but it won’t make those boss fights any easier. There’s no real utility that comes from buying the horse customization, but hey, nobody’s going to stop you.Just because you shouldn’t doesn’t mean that you can’t.
2Non-Legendary Gear Upgrades
More than likely, in the early parts of the campaign and before levels 45-50 and onward, you will regularly replace your gear with the next best thing. Try not to get too attached to anything because you will, inevitably, run across something better than what you were just using.

You can break some items down for cosmetics if you really do enjoy it, but you shouldn’t waste your gold on trying to make early-game equipment better. Whether it’s weapons or armor, you’ll be replacing it soon enough. And if it has a Legendary Aspect you like, you can rip it off at the Occultist and paste it onto a better piece of gear (though you’ll only get to do that once).
Upgrading your weak gear, especially rare armor, just isn’t worth the price. It’s a waste of gold and a waste of resources. You can make your gear Legendary by pasting aspects onto them from the Codex of Power or from your inventory, and at that point, upgrading it at the blacksmith means you can keep it for longer and finallygo toe to toe with some of the many bossesin Diablo 4.
1Stash Upgrades
Be honest with yourself for a second - do you really need every single Legendary item you’ve stashed away in your chest? Sure, having them for the Legendary Aspect is nice, but where you can go and rip the aspects off of them thanks to the Occultist, you really don’t need to keep every single unique Legendary item.
Yes, the first stash upgrade is only 100,000 gold, but in the early stages of the game, that’s a lot of money that could be better spent on different things. Even in the game’s later stages, your money is better spent on repairing your items and upgrading Legendaries than on having the room to stash them away for later.
