One of the most satisfying things to do inCrash Team Rumble- and many online service games, to be fair - is unlocking stuff for your characters. And this game offers a fun variety of items to unlock for your profile and characters, including skins that vary from simple color swaps to more detailed outfits.

Enter Neo Periwinkle Cortex (is the middle name still a thing, or did it get rebooted?). The main baddie of the entire series, the creator of Crash and his nemesis, and one of the most difficult characters to control here, albeit a very powerful combatant. What skins did the game offer for our favorite evil scientist?

8Honorable Mention: Other Customizations

Apart from the skins, there are other things you can change about Cortex - or any other character, really. You can give him a hat - he even has a general hat with an ‘N’ on it - a backpack, you can alter the shadow icon below you or the special effect that happens when you store Wumpa.

These are also shared by all characters, so unlocking a hat for Cortex unlocks it for everyone. However, Cortex also has his gun, and the gun itself is also customizable separately from the skins.

For example, a toy gun for your clown skin is a fun combination to go around beating your enemies. You have many combinations you can do with these options.

7Science Of Style

It’s Cortex, but orange and green. Aside from the texture changes in his clothes, it’s a simple color swap, giving him the style the name implies. Overall, it’s not a big change, but it looks good, especially if you like these colors.

In case you want it for yourself, you need to get Hero experience - in other words, you just need to play a lot as Cortex. You’ll unlock it when you reach level 12 with him.

6Captain Cortex

Captain Cortex is another case of a color swap, with even more orange this time around. Orange and purple are an interesting color combination, and they’re more vibrant here compared to the previous skin. Cortex also looks good with purple hair.

The idea to obtain this skin is the same as Science of Style too. However, you need toplay with our evil Boostera bit more, as you need to reach level 15 to get Captain Cortex.

5Data Doctor

All the original cast of characters from the game received the same skin concept: A low-poly, blocky skin. Some look better than others, and Cortex, in particular, is a good fit, looking extremely goofy - in a good way - and even having a square-shaped head, as he used to have.

He’s also one of the few who remained with his eyebrows, and that makes him look even funnier.

This skin - well, all blocky skins - is available to those who bought the Deluxe Edition of the game. You also get other low-poly cosmetics, such as a hat, a backpack, and even a gun for Cortex.

4Negative

Sometimes, a good concept doesn’t need to be complicated. Though this is a color swap as well, and an even simpler one compared to the others, it looks good.

A mostly white outfit with a purple color for his skin, inverting colors as the name implies.

And it’s also easier to get compared to the other ones. You need to play as Cortex too, but only until you reach level six. Once that is done, the skin is all yours.

3Dr. Neo Cortex

The main wardrobe is already pretty good, to begin with. Cortex’s main design here is the same as Crash 4, which is already an amazing design for the character, giving him a modern look while keeping the series' cartoonish roots.

This skin comes with the character already, so all you need to do is unlock him in the first place, and you’ll do so by obtaining Booster badges as you play. You’ll accomplish that in no time if you play as another Booster, like Coco.

2Cortex The Clown

A nod to his past as a circus clown - where he and his family come from before he killed everyone - we have Cortex the Clown. Here, he retains his main characteristics, only swapping his outfit and having his face painted with clown makeup.

Oh, and dyed hair, giving him the full aesthetic.

Rather than Hero progression, you can unlock this skin by playing through Season One’s battle pass.

You don’t need to go that far into it, so it’s still easy to unlock overall. Don’t forget to unlock the toy gun, too.

1Cybernetic

We’ve had enough goofy Cortex skins. Now it’s time to make him look like a menace, worthy of beingthe final bossof so many games.

Well, the skin you want is here, then. Cybernetic gives him a strong cyberpunk vibe, changing his clothes to a nice-looking jacket and giving him cybernetics through his face. The ‘N’ is also different, being in the skin instead of on it.

Oh, and you can see his brain on the back, which is just creepy.

This skin also comes from Season One’s battle pass, though you need to reach level 90 to get it, so it’s a bit more difficult. Due to its style, though, it’s definitely worth pursuing, especially if you like playing as Cortex.
