Clive’s journey inFinal Fantasy 16is full of challenges. He has tough monsters to beat, armies to topple, and harsh environments to survive. To help him in this endeavor, he, of course, needs some top-quality armor. Luckily, Blackthorne (and sometimes Goetz) is standing by to lend a hand!

Heading to the blacksmith will let you craft or upgrade better weapons and armor for yourself, using the raw materials gathered on your adventure through Valisthea. As you progress through the game, more recipes will be unlocked, letting you make even stronger equipment for yourself, so if you see items below that you don’t recognize, don’t worry - you’ll unlock them soon enough.

Updated June 04, 2025:We’ve added the weapon recipe added by the Echoes of the Fallen DLC and made sure the rest of the guide is clear and accurate.

All Regular Sword Recipes

Swords, as you might expect, increase your Attack as they improve. They also improve your Stagger stat at an equal rate (at least until you get into the more exotic swords and into Final Fantasy Mode).

Sincethe cost of upgrading a sword from the base level to +1 costs far fewer resources than crafting a +1 weapon outright, it is a good idea to purchase the base weapons from Charon if you have the gil for it.
