Before the arrival ofHearthstone BattlegroundsSeason 4,Dragonswere in a relatively weak spot. Tarecgosa had been nerfed to Tavern Tier 4, and Kalecgos just couldn’t keep up with the other endgame builds in the meta.

The minion type clearly needed some support from the new Season, and it appears to have gotten it. All the new Dragons are powerful in their own way, and many of them are in the higher Tiers, creating new ways to play the minion type and improving the old. Hopefully they will be enough to help Dragons become relevant again.

6Low-Flier

Low-Flier is an extremely interesting minion. In the early game, its base three attack will buff most of your other minions, which can give you a distinct advantage in the first few combats. And it doesn’t take much to boost Low-Flier’s attack enough for it to continue being relevant for a significant portion of the game.

Additionally, since Low-Flier doesn’t just effect Dragons, it can be used to buff other minions with advantageous abilities, like Divine Shield. With a bit of work, Low-Flier can be the basis of a build on its own, a rare thing for a Tavern Tier 2 minion.

5Upbeat Frontdrake

Upbeat Frontdrake is a long-term value generator. It gives you free minions, which is a powerful effect, but three rounds is a pretty long time to wait. Additionally, while the value is certainly nice to have, Dragons aren’t likeElementalsorMurlocs, which get substantially stronger each time you play one. The Frontdrake can be quite useful for getting triples, though, especially since the Golden version gives you two Dragons.

It’s also worth noting that the new Hero introduced in Season 4, Rock Master Voone, has particular synergy with the Upbeat Frontdrake. His ability duplicates the left-most card in your hand after three turns, and will trigger after the Frontdrake’s ability. If you can sync the two up, say by buying a Frontdrake in the first turn, you can guarantee a minion in hand for Voone’s ability to hit.

4Electric Synthesizer

Electric Synthesizer is a relatively simple minion, but its lack of complexity doesn’t mean it’s not worth buying from the Tavern. Even if there wasn’t any synergy with other Dragons, getting four attack on multiple minions is pretty good.

But, as it turns out, Dragons actually have a lot of attack-based synergy. There are indirect combos, such as Nadina protecting high-attack, low-health minions with Divine Shield, and direct ones, including several of the other minions on this list.

Electric Synthesizer also has Battlecry synergy with Kalecgos. It may not be a build-around minion, but it will consistently make your Dragon builds better, no matter which variant you are playing.

3Sanctum Rester

An increase of eight health is pretty significant during the midgame, and the 16 you get from the Golden version of Sanctum Rester even more so. As the game progresses, those stats will steadily become less and less relevant, but that much health is still enough that it can make a difference, even in the late stages of the game.

Sanctum Rester also provides another way to grow Tarecgosa, which keeps buffs gained in combat. Tarecgosa was moved back down from Tavern Tier 4 to 3 in Season 4. That allows the minion to come online earlier, and the introduction of Sanctum Rester makes it easier to scale.

2Disco Shuffler

Disco Shuffler is a powerful card for many different strategies. There are a variety of builds that utilize Battlecries, and can take great advantage of either of the Disco Shuffler’s choices. Particularly prominent examples include Elementals with Tavern Tempest or Murlocs with Primalfin Lookout.

Disco Shuffler fits well into Dragon builds as well. Its first ability works with Kalecgos, since the Tavern Tier 6 minion’s ability was changed to activate whenever a Battlecry triggers, not whenever you play one. And of course, while Disco Shuffler is not itself a Battlecry minion, it does give you a Battlecry minion for Kalecgos’ effect. The only unfortunate note is that you can’t double Disco Shuffler’s effect with Brann Bronzebeard, since, again, it is not a Battlecry minion. The Battlecry you trigger with it will be doubled, as will the effect of any minion the Shuffler creates, but you can’t choose twice.

1Stormbringer

Battlegrounds Season 4 came with many new ways to increase the attack of your Dragons, so the inclusion of a minion like Stormbringer, who can capitalize on those boosts, makes perfect sense. Stormbringer has an exceptional amount of synergy with other Dragons, both new and old, allowing it to gain a staggering amount of attack in a single round without too much work.

The primary drawback of the Stormbringer is its low health, but Dragons have numerous ways to counteract that. You can give Stormbringer Divine Shield with minions like Nadina or Amber Guardian, or by using Kalecgos or Sanctum Rester to give it more health. The Kalecgos synergy is particularly effective, since all the attack Kalecgos gives your other Dragons will be multiplied by the Stormbringer.
