Atomic Heartis getting its first DLC this Summer, and since its launch is creeping closer and closer, it has dropped a teaser showing off one of the new enemies. The BEA-D is a collection of little cutesy orbs that can merge into giant monstrous constructs hell-bent on killing you. Maybe try not to stroke them, yeah?
At first, they form a sort of centipede. It’s a little creepier than an orb, but still relatively harmless. Then the camera pans to an elaborate humanoid made out of the spheres, and it’s swinging a giant arm at us. Okay, less harmless.

“This is not a decorative item, but a real group of agile and dangerous robots,” the teaser’s description reads. “Meet BEA-D, the new enemy group from the upcoming DLC#1 for [Atomic Heart]! Be careful, because this summer it is you who can become the jewel of their trophy list.”
You can tell they’re evil given the red visors on the smaller orb that forms their head, but since they look like they’d fit right in at Aperture Science or even the world of WALL-E, it’s hard to hate them. But I’m sure we’ll be gunning them down when they turn into mecha-Kaijus and try to crush us under their heel.
They’ll arrive in the first of four DLC packs developer Mundfish has planned for Atomic Heart. Each one will be a single-player follow-up to the main campaign, as multiplayer was ultimately cancelled. We don’t know much else aside from those very basic details, but a reveal teaser was shared last month that gave us a look at a giant spiralling vertical city. Somewhere in this city lies BEA-D. As for when we can expect to get our hands on the DLC, we don’t know anything more specific than “Summer”.
Aside from that, we know that Mundfish CEO and founder Robert Bagratuni wants tocollaborate with Elon Musk on the DLC, asking over Twitter if he’d be down to work together to “integrate Tesla bots”. This drew backlash given that Twitter’s hate speech spiked after Musk’s acquisition and is seeing no signs of slowing down, while he regularly mocks people’s pronouns in transphobic tweets.
Atomic Heart also faced backlash around its launch whenUkraine called for a worldwide ban. Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov sent official requests to Sony CEO Jim Ryan, Microsoft president Brad Smith, and Valve CEO Gabe Newell about the Ukraine government’s “serious concerns” with the game. They believe that “there is a potential risk that money raised from the purchases of the game […] will be used to fund war against Ukraine”.
