Despite the adorable art style and the laid-back nature ofRune Factory 4 Special, there are miles of depth within the various systems you’ll be using, from gardening and crafting to hunting and taming creatures to help out either in battle or back at the farm while trying to romanceyour favorite NPC.

There are a lot of different monsters to choose from, making it that much harder to try to figure out which ones work out best for what you need. These entries have a wide variety of uses and are universally favored. Maybe you’ll find one to add to your party that you hadn’t considered until now.
8Wooly
This wooly companion is available early on in the game and will be your first friend that willtend to your farmsif you can win one over. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to do so in the early stages of the game, as they are everywhere outside your starting village.
To woo Wooly home, you’ll first have to give them a gift that they love. With Wooly, their favorite gift is a… tuft of fur. That’s right, the very thing you received for cutting them down is the very thing they want to come home and live with you. In exchange, they’ll be happy to do your gardening while you are out exploring.
7Buffamoo
Just like its real-life bull counterpart, the Buffamoo will strike out at anyone who is wearing red, so use caution when trying to tame this prolific, fearsome beast. For starters, they are found within the Delirium Lava Ruins, which means you already have to be a capable survivalist just to simply walk in there.
However, the other, and more terrifying detail, is that to simply get this bull to settle down long enough to tame is offering the horn of one of its fellow Buffamoo. It’s a grim ask, but it shows the Buffamoo that you mean business. After you tame one, you will have access to plenty of fresh milk.
When you first lay your eyes upon the Dead Tree, it’s easy toassume that it’s a scary, intimidating treewith its yellow beady eyes fixed inside the void hollow of the tree. Couple that with its arms sprouting out to attack, and you’ve got a recipe for a horror-filled nightmare.

Once you feed it its own apples, though, the Dead Tree winds up completely dropping its scary persona and accepts you as its tamer surprisingly easily. Congrats, you have yourself a lifetime of free apples and a cuddly friend to boot.
5Thunderbolt
Found deep within the depths of the Water Ruins, Thunderbolt, the mighty steed, stands at the center of the final room, looking as though he’d been waiting for you to show up. With nothing more than a high-pitched neigh as a warning, he charges full strength toward you with the intent to kill. You’ll need fast reflexes, too, as he’ll launch, unsurprisingly, beams of lightning.
After he is defeated, he doesn’t become a tamed monster like the rest but instead is welcomed by the citizens of Selphia as a new, mysterious resident. You’ll be able to talk to them and ask them questions about how they came to be.
4Ambrosia
Ambrosia is the first special monster you find deep within the Koukuri forest. She leads you to her withclouds of mysterious butterfliespulling you further into the depths. There, you’ll find her ‘true’ form of a giant-sized butterfly. You’ll have no choice but to defeat it the first time you meet it, and you’ll gain a new winged resident in the process.
That doesn’t mean it’s untamable. On the contrary, you’ll be able to find her daily in the same spot you first discovered Amber in her butterfly form. Just be sure to have plenty of her favorite flowers in hand, such as King Pink Cat, and you’ll tame the giant butterfly easily.
3Malm Tiger
If you think this adorable, bi-pedal tiger is going to be a walk in the park to tame, you’ve got another thing coming. First, despite their cute looks, they are formidable to fight with their incredible speed and reflexes. They will not hesitate to juggle you in the air if they catch you slipping.

Once you finally win the battle of attrition between you, you have a great physical attacker that can also juggle enemies in the air. You should probably only bring one, though, as they are known to juggle monsters indefinitely, leaving them unable to die, and you stuck inside of a cave.
2Silver Wolf
Traditionally, the Silver Wolf has long been considered to be nearly impossible to tame, almost making it a legend among the citizens of Selphia and those who live within the Sechs territory. It’s a strong attacker and will give you a real challenge when you try and tame it the old-fashioned way.
There is another way if you are keen to get this guy early and with incredible ease. When you visit the Sechs Territory for the first time, you’ll find the poor wolf unconscious lying on the ground. If you give it any food you have on your person, he’ll perk right up and immediately join your barn with a high friendship level.
1Emerald (Green Elemental Fairy)
Not only will you have to fight all four fairies simultaneously, but you’ll have to do it four separate times if you want to tame all of them. These fairies will not go without a fight, as they will throw all manner of spells at you in hopes that you’ll leave them be. Be sure to equip yourself with lots of big green crystals for this encounter.
While the other fairies are powerful in their own right, Emerald’s wind attacks can slice through enemies with ease, and she can also provide some serious healing when you are on the brink of losing consciousness—an absolute must for your party.
