Here are seven useful plants and herbs to grow in your current or future playthrough.

7Daybloom: A Staple Ingredient

Used in a variety of adventurer-friendly recipes,Daybloomare green and yellow herbs that grow onforest grassduring thedaytime. If there’s any herb you decide to grow, make sure it’s Daybloom; its versatility and beginner-friendly growing preferences are simply unmatched.

With a hefty supply of Daybloom, you’ll be able to craft a bunch of useful potions that oftentimes don’t even require that many ingredients.

Without Daybloom, you’ll be missing out on defense boostingIronskinpotions, or potentially life-savingRegenerationpotions, which are useful for boss fights. If you’re more of the mining type, Daybloom are also great for makingShinepotions en masse.

6Blinkroot: No Grass, Please

Practically the inverse of Daybloom,Blinkrootare dark herbs with bright yellow bulbs that, hence the name, repeatedly emit a pulsing light. This herb grows ondirt and mud blocks, at any lighting level, and any elevation, so keep in mind that those dirt and mud blockscannothave any grass of any kind for this herb to grow.

Without Blinkroot, you’ll be missing out on potions that are nothing short of fantastic for travel. Namely, Blinkroot is the sole herb involved inSwiftnesspotions andWormholepotions.

If you’re a big fan of multiplayer, having a good supply of Blinkroot will let you and your friends explore faster, and be able to teleport to one another more frequently.

5Deathweed: A Bit Time Sensitive

Short and withered in appearance,Deathweedis a herb that is largely combat related for the recipes it’s involved in. The herb can be found in either theCorruption biome, growing on corrupt grass or Ebonstone, or theCrimson biome, growing on crimson grass or Crimstone, and only blooms duringBlood or Full Moons.

Incredibly useful for fighting bosses or various mobs, Deathweed is unique to potion recipes related to damage and DPS enhancement, such asWrathpotions,Thornspotions, andRagepotions. Who doesn’t like percent increases to damage and critical hit chance, or the ability to briefly reflect damage?

4Shiverthorn: Snow, Ice, And Everything Nice

Found in cold environments,Shiverthornis an herb with a dark blue stalk and light blue petals. This herb can grow on anysnow or ice block, andalways bloomsafter a set amount of time.

Keep in mind that Shiverthorn remainspermanently bloomedonce full maturity is reached. Potions unique to this herb include theWarmthpotion, which reduces damage from icy enemies, such as the ice tortoise, by a whopping 30 percent, and theLovepotion, which is really just there to create a fun, non-functional, cosmetic effect.

3Moonglow: Welcome To The Jungle

Appearing rather droopy and solemn,Moonglowis a flower with a green stalk and a single, light blue bulb found inJungle biomes. This flower only grows on Jungle grass, and as you likely inferred by the name,only blooms at night.

Unique to Moonglow are theSummoningpotion, which increases your maximum amount of minions summoned, and theAmmo Reservationpotion, which is great for ranged builds. If you throw in a Blinkroot to the mix, you can brew the incredibly usefulSpelunkerpotion to help you find various ore veins.

2Fireblossom: It Sure Is Hot Down Here

Made up of a variety of bright to dark reds and oranges,Fireblossomis a flower found only inThe Underworld. The flower grows onAsh blocksand bloomswhen the sun is setting,so keep in mind that the blossoming processis interrupted if it is raining.

Fireblossoms are related to theInfernopotion, which grants a buff that damages and ignites enemies around you, and theTeleportationpotion, which teleports you to a random position in the world. If you throw in some obsidian and Waterleaf, you can makeObsidian Skinpotions, which are vital for dealing with lava and mining Hellstone.

1Waterleaf: Sand With A Side Of Precipitation, Please

Rather small and aqua-colored,Waterleafis only found growing onSandandPearlsand blocks. The herbonly blooms during some kind of precipitation event, such as rainfall or snowfall, and if you don’t feel like hoofing it over to a beach biome, Waterleafcan be obtained through Herb Bags.

Primarily useful for fishing, Waterleaf is an ingredient unique toWater Walkingpotions,Sonarpotions,Gillspotions,Fishingpotions, and the varying tiers ofLuckpotions. Combined with Moonglow, Shiverthorn, and Amber, you can also makeCratepotions.
