Amiibosare a funny thing. Odds are most people who own aNintendo Switcharen’t only uninterested in the figurines, but many of those millions might not even know what they are. As well you know, since you’re here reading this, that’s a real shame. That’s because not only do amiibos let you own miniature versions of some of your favorite characters, but they have in-game functions.

They are quite literally more than just window dressing, and what they offer in-game inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis pretty interesting. UnlikeTears of the Kingdomwhere an amiibo gives you a different glider, using an amiibo in Smash effectively adds another mode. One where you can train the character the amiibo is tied to, making them more powerful so they can go out and battle other players' amiibos. These are some of the best ones out there right now.

Minecraft Steve And Alex Amiibos

Minecraft x Smash = Money

Steve and Alex, characters from Minecraft, as amiibos, compatible with Nintendo Switch.

When arguing who should be added to Smash next, it’s worth considering what exactly that addition will mean to Nintendo’s bottom line. While we might all want to see Waluigi andRaymanjoin the fight, neither would have had the positive financial impact that gettingMinecraftcharacters on the roster did. With 300 million copies sold, Minecraft is the best-selling game ever, and if even a fraction of that player base had its head turned by Steve and Alex in Smash, it would have been considered a roaring success. Throw in those characters getting their very own, very cool amiibos, and yeah, a no-brainer for Nintendo.

Sora Amiibo

I Can’t Believe It Actually Happened

Sora’s amiibo is real and coming in 2024. The final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character to get his own figure, something that wasn’t a sure thing due to Kingdom Hearts' Disney connection.

Just when it felt like Nintendo wasn’t going to be able to pull it off, it shocked the amiibo-collecting world and revealed yes,Sora really is getting his own figure. Since Sora was the final fighter added to Smash Ultimate, theKingdom Heartsprotagonist was always going to be the last character to get an amiibo. However, the licensing hoops Nintendo must have had to jump through made some skeptical that would ever happen. Hoops successfully cleared, and although it won’t be released until 2024, you can secure your Sora amiibo pre-orders right now.

Sephiroth Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

Look At That Gorgeous Head Of Hair

Comfortably the most iconic villain in Final Fantasy history, not only can you battle as Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the antagonist also has his very own amiibo.

Every Smash Ultimate character gets an amiibo eventually, even if that character isn’t from aNintendo-owned series. Enter Sephiroth, one of the most iconic and despicable villains in video game history. Looking just as good in amiibo form as he does inFinal Fantasy 7 Remake(did you knowhis haircare routine is canon?), there has never been a better time to add Sephiroth to your amiibo collection. WithRebirth’s launch on the horizon, the heinous character is about to become more relevant than ever.

Kazuya Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

Fighting Game Worlds Collide

Kazuya is the only character from Tekken to have found their way into Smash. What other reason do you need to add his amiibo to your collection?

Getting in on the Smash Ultimate third party hype with Sephiroth,Kazuya also joined the game’s massive rosteras part of the final few additions before Masahiro Sakurai finally called it a day. Not only does that mean we live in a world where someone fromTekkencan beat up Luigi and Pikachu, but you can also find out who would win in a fight between Kazuya andStreet Fighter’s Ryu and Ken. Get the amiibo too so they can fight in the real world, up there on your shelfToy Story-style when you leave the room. That happens.

Dark Samus Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

Like Samus, But Better, And Badder

There is only one Nintendo character who is even more bad ass than Samus, and that’s Dark Samus. Now you can own her incredibly detailed amiibo.

There comes a time in every video game hero’s run when they start beating the old reliable villains with such ease that the only feasible baddie who can stop them is an evil version of themselves. InMetroid, that villain is Dark Samus. Repeatedly trying to thwart the hero throughout theMetroid Primeseries (I’m assuming she’ll beback in Metroid Prime 4 if we ever get it), Dark Samus might be evil, but there’s no denying that design. Her armor looks incredibly cool which is why her amiibo comes more highly recommended by me than regular Samus.

Metal Gear Solid’s Snake Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

Metal Gear Solid Amiibo Choice, Lieutenant

Snake being welcomed into Smash might be one of the more shocking additions to Ultimate’s roster. Best of all, he now has his own amiibo too in which he is natrually striking a stealthy pose.

As Smash Ultimate’s roster grew, characters you never thought would show up in a Nintendo game continued appearing. Now the roster is complete, Snake getting a spot on a Smash game is still the one that continues to shock me the most. High on my personal wishlist every time the new fighter rumor mill turned, and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one, the novelty of battling with Snake accompanied by aPokemon Stadiumbackdrop still hasn’t been lost on me. I still haven’t forgiven Sakurai for not giving usCrash BandicootandRayman, though.

Wii Fit Trainer Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

The Only Nintendo Character Who Deserves A Movie Adaptation

You all use the Wii Fit trainer in Smash Ultimate all the time, right? Of course you do, so you need the amiibo. If you don’t, maybe picking up the amiibo will encourage you to change.

It blows my mind that a lot more people now own a Switch than owned aWii. Maybe it was because I was a little younger, but it almost felt like houses came with a complimentary Wii when the Nintendo console’s popularity was at its peak. Not only that, but it also felt like everyone who had a Wii owned Wii Fit, complete with a balance board. Nintendo must have been raking it in back then, and still is now for that matter. While Wii Fit might be dead, its trainers live on in Smash, and the female version has her very own amiibo which you really need to own.

Ganondorf Super Smash Bros. Amiibo

Witness A King’s Revival

Ganondorf has never been more relevant, so whether you’re using him in Smash or just want to admire him in all his glory, this amiibo is a must for your collection.

Ganondorf is a big deal again thanks to Tears of the Kingdom. Whether you’ve defeated him or you’re still traversing Hyrulemaking robots with flamethrower wangs, you’ve seen the trailer andyou’ve probably thirsted after The Legend of Zelda’s big bad. Whether you have or not, this amiibo is worth your time and money. If you don’t find him attractive, buying it will encourage you to use Ganondorf more in Smash. Seriously, more people should be using Ganondorf.
