Peridotis an augmented reality pet simulator from Niantic, the mobile game company behind Pokemon Go. In Peridot, players hatch their own unique dot, then raise them to maturity by feeding, playing, and introducing them to the real world.

There’s a lot to learn about Peridot’s various gameplay systems, which include raising your dot from a baby to an adult, meeting other members of the Keeper Society on Campfire, and breeding your dot to hatch new ones and discover all of the archetypes in the game. If you just started playing Peridot and you’re unsure what to do, this helpful guide is here to answer the most common questions players have about the game.
How Do I Play Peridot?
Peridot is a mobile game that has been in closed beta for several months, and is no available on Android and iOS mobile phones. Because it is an AR game, only high-end mobile devices can run Peridot as it’s intended. Currently, Peridot supports iPhone 8+ or higher, and the device must be on iOS 14 or higher as well. For Android, Niantic reccomends Samsung Note 9 or above, Galaxy S9 or above, or Pixel 6 or above. For specific chipsets,check Niantic’s website.
Do I Have To Play Peridot In AR?
Yes, Peridot is played entirely in AR. Unlike Pokemon Go, which lets you choose whether or not you want to use AR features, Peridot requires AR for all of its gameplay. This will cause your phone to heat up and the battery to quickly drain, but Peridot is meant to be played in short bursts throughout the day, similar to the way you raise a Tamagotchi pet.
What’s The Best Way To Raise My Dot?
Once you hatch a dot, your goal is to take care of it and increase its Growth until it becomes a teenager, and eventually an adult. There are three ways to increase your dot’s growth:feeding, playing, and fulfilling Desires.
Before you can feed and play with your dot, you need to forage for resources.Simply draw a circle on the ground, and your dot will retrieve food and toys.Tap on your bag to select food, then swipe to toss it to your dot. This will partially fill their hunger meter and give your dot some Growth points. To fill the attention meter, select a ball from your bag and throw it to play fetch with your dot.
Tap on the blue list icon on the bottom left to check your dot’s Desires.Each dot can have up to three Desires, and completing them will increase their growth. You’ll recieve a new Desire roughly once per hour if they have open slots for them. Desires typically require you to go out into your neighborhood to take your pet for a walk, teach them a trick, or show them an object like a flower or a tree.
Keeping your dot’s hunger and attention meter filled, and fulfilling as many desires as possible are the keys to growing your dot quickly.If you’re able to dedicate a few minutes every couple of hours throughout the day to take care of your dot, it should only take a day or so before they become a teen, and another day to raise them to adulthood. Adult is the last form a dot can take, and its at this point they can start to breed.
What Are Dewdrops, Speed Sprouts, And Dotnip?
Dewdrops, Speed Sprouts, and Dotnip are special food items that can be found by foraging. It seems you have a better chance of finding these resources when foraging near a habitat, but you can find them anywhere. Each of these items has a special function:
Dewdrop: Can be foraged around habitats. Feed this to your Dot to refil their Desires. This is the best item for quickly raising your dots to adulthood. Make sure you don’t have any Desires on their list before you use this. Try to hold onto this item until you’re sure you have enough time to get lots of Desires done, because they don’t expire like other food.
Dotnip: Increases Your Dot’s Attention.Dotnip’s purpose has changed during the beta, so there’s information online that is no longer accurate. Currently, it seems like all Dotnip does is fill your dot’s attention meter, just like playing fetch with them.
Seed Sprout: Multiply your Dot’s Growth gains! The effects of this last half an hour. This is a great item to use in conjunction with Dewdrops. If you really want to boost your dot to adulthood, start when their hunger and attention meters are completely empty, then feed them a Seed Sproud and get to work filling their meters back up. Then complete their Desires, feed them a Dewdrop, and fulfill all their new desires. Repeat this process for 30 minutes, or until you run out of Dewdrops.
How Do I Breed My Dot And Hatch A New Dot?
Once your dot becomes an adult, you’re able to breed them with another dot. There arefour ways to find dots to breedwith:
Once you’ve found a dot that you want to breed yours with, you have to send their owner a request. You’ll see a button for this below their dot card in any of those aforemetioned places. If they accept your request, you’ll get a notification in your chat log in Campfire. Within that message, you’ll see a button that saysHatch-A-Dot. Tap it to return to Peridot and begin the breeding process.
Hatching a new dot requires a Nest and some amount of Sundrops, based on your distance from the person whose dot you’re breeding with. You can buy a Nest in the in-game store for $5, and you can earn Sundrops by completing daily and weekly quests. If you have the required Nest and Sundrops, tap Hatch-a-Dot and the process will begin. You’ll see three eggs you can choose from, and whichever one you pick will be your new dot.
The dots you can choose from will have a random selection of traits from both parents.You can see which traits the new dot will have at the bottom of the screen while selecting between the three eggs.
Why Are Some Traits Locked On The Dot I Want To Breed With?
With each level you earn as a member of the Keeper Society, you’ll unlock new traits that the dots you hatch can have.When you look at possible mates for your dot, you may see that some traits have a lock next to them. The number on the lock represent the level that you need to be to unlock that trait and breed it into new dots.
you’re able to either wait until you reach the required level, or if you don’t mind spending some money, you can unlock all available traits while breeding with gems.
Once you select a mate, you’ll see a second option under the Hatch-a-dot button where you can spend your gems and a Nest to hatch a new dot with all traits unlocked.
Keep in mind that the new dot will still have a random selection of traits from both parents, so there’s no guarantee you’ll get the exact dot you want.
What Are Egg Rays?
Egg Rays are a consumable that allows you to see what your dot will look like as an adult before you choose which egg to hatch.Normally you can only see what traits they will have, but the egg ray allows you to get a good look at the options before you pick the one you want. You will earn some Egg Rays occasionally through the daily log-in rewards, but you can also buy Egg Rays in the shop.
How Do I Teach My Dot Tricks, And What Do They Do?
Occasionally you may find that your dot has a Desire to learn a new trick. If youtap on their icon on the bottom left,you’re able to see which tricks your dot can learn and how to perform them.
All you need to do isopen a bag, take out a piece of food, and hold it in the center of the screen. Then, drag the food to the position that corresponds with the trick, and your dot will perform the trick. You can then feed your dot the food, and they’ll get a boost to both their hunger and attention meter.
Multistep tricks can be a little confusing to perform, but just remember that you’re always moving to a position in relation to your previous move.
For example, if the trick input is down-left-right. You want to start in the middle, then move down one, then left one, then right one, ending in the bottom middle position of the grid.
In other words, you never return to the center when performing tricks, just follow the position from one to the next.
How Do I Unlock New Archetypes?
When a dot ishatched with a specific combination of traits, they will have an archetype iconon their profile page. If this is the first time you’ve hatched that archetype, a stamp will be added to your archetypes page. To discover new archetypes, start by visiting your archetypes page and tapping on any of the ones you haven’t discovered yet. There you will see a list of the traits that are required to confirm that archetype in a new dot.
When looking for a dot to breed with, try to find one that has most, if not all of the traits of a single archetype. It may take multiple attempts as you collect a few traits at a time and breed several generations together to get all the traits you need, but when you finally get a single dot with all the required traits, you will earn a stamp for the corresponding archetype on your archetype page.
Keep in mind you can only breed traits you’ve unlocked into each dot you hatch, unless you’re willing to pay gems to temporarily unlock them while you breed.
