How To Perform A Crop Fusion
Who Is Vinnie?
Early in Spring of Year Two,Takakurawill return home frombuying an animal in the cityto tell you that someone slipped a packet of seeds into his pocket, and those seeds grew into a large,three-headed plantthat he’s growing in his house, namedVinnie.
You need to order a new animal, as Takakura will not make this journey unless you do.
Vinnie can talk, and you’ll find he has quite a lot to say. Takakura will ask if you’re okay with him keeping Vinnie around, butTakakura keeps Vinnieregardless of what you say.
Saying no to letting Vinnie stay will cause you to start with a lower friendship level with him, and he’ll stay either way, so it’s better to just start level and tell him he can stay.
Vinnie Won’t Make Seeds Until You’re Friends
To become friends, you need totalk to Vinniequite a lot. He begins by having only one conversation per interaction before telling you he’s had enough for the day, but you canforce him to continue talking to you by interacting with him again.
Eventually, he’llgive you the option to stop talking to him, sometimes multiple times per conversation ashe warms up to youandtalks to you for longer, but carry on! The sooner you’re friends, the sooner you may make hybrid seeds.
How many times he asks if you’re ready to stop talking is a good metric for how much progress you’re making in your friendship - the more times Vinnie asks if you want to keep talking, the more he likes you.
As soon as yourfriendship meter with Vinnieinches into thered area at the rightto denote your solid friendship, when youtalk to Vinnie again, you’ll be given a choice between talking andmaking hybrid crops.
Make Hybrid Crops With Seeds To Save Money
Once you’ve unlocked the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life crop fusion mechanic, you’re able to thengive Vinnie two seeds or cropsof two different plants.
It earns you the most money touse seeds instead of actual crops, whichsell for quite a lot morethan the seeds from which they began. Using seeds will save you money in the long run.
Sometimes, these come out as better-grade seeds of one of the crops you put in, while other times, he seems to just eat one of the seeds and give the other back as the same grade. You may need to feed Vinnie the same combo a few times before he spits out your hybrid seedsbecause of this.
When you’ve made something new, Vinnie tells you thename and growth seasonsfor your new plant, which are most often ahybrid of the names of the base plantsthatgrow when the base plants grow.
When fusing your crops with aHappy Lamp Flower, you’re able to create crops thatgrow year-roundinstead ofonly during specific seasons. These are denoted by anoutlined diamondbeside the name of the seed in your inventory.
Likewise, when hybridizing a seed with aSagesoil Flower, you’ll receive a crop that cangrow in all soil types. This is perfect forhybrid seeds with set soil preferences, so you can spread them over into the other fields. These are marked with afilled-indiamondin the name of the seed.
Finally,Upseed Flowerswill cause Vinnie to give you anS-Grade cropof the seed or crop you fed him with the flower. For more info, check out our guide to growing better crops.
How To Get Blue Hybrid Crops
Vinnie is capable of giving youblue crop seedsif you feed him aTrick Blue Flower with one seed or crop. Trick Blue Flowers are available by Turtle Pond every few days during theAutumn, or they’refor sale fromVanfor100gper flower.
The cheapest way to get Trick Blue Flowers is toforage in the falland save the Trick Blue Flowers you collect for hybridization throughout the year.
Simplyfeed Vinnie the flower as if it were a crop or seed, and he can make blue variants of certain crops! Theylook like the parent crop, except blue, and their use in recipes is slightly different, as the game regards them as their own ingredient.
Custom Crops
As you begin to amass a collection of hybrid seeds,Vinniewill suggest youhybridize two hybrid seedsoccasionally in conversation, offering suggestions on which he can turn into something new when youtalk to Vinnieconversationally.
This doesn’t work forallhybrid crops, but there area handful of custom cropsyou can create andname yourselfto grow on your farm as normal. By default, it has acrop number for a name, which you’re able to change to fit your style.
Vinnie doesn’t give you any information about these, though, so you’ll need tocheck the info in your inventoryfor when to plant them.
