If you’ve been keeping an eye onRedditover the course of the past few weeks, you’ll know that several communities are locked in a heated battle with the higher ups due to recent API changes that have forced third-party apps to pay for access. A recent blackoutcaused Reddit to completely crash, but despite best efforts and several popular subreddits going dark, things seem to be carrying on as usual now the initial fury has seemingly passed.
However, there are those still fighting the good fight, including theCyberpunk 2077andWitchercommunities. In an attempt to protest the API changes, both subreddits have been marked as NSFW by their moderators, something that many other subreddits have been doing to block ads from appearing. Reddit is obviously none too happy about two rather large subreddits stopping pretty much all ads from being displayed there, and has warned the moderators of both of them to switch back.

Unfortunately, threats have only made the situation worse, as to keep up the charade of both subreddits being legitimately NSFW, they’ve been spamming nude pictures and other spicy content related to their respective games (thanksKotaku). If you visit either subreddit right now, you’ll be greeted with an avalanche of blurred out pictures, some of them innocent, but most of them featuring a whole range of naughtiness.
The Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit has taken to this new role a lot quicker than The Witcher subreddit, as players have taken this as the perfect excuse to start sharing nude pictures of their characters. The rest have either been mocking Reddit CEO Steve Huffman (also known as Spez), or poking fun at the whole situation with various Cyuberpunk 2077-related memes. In fact, you’ll struggle to find an non-NSFW post on the Cyberpunk 2077 over the past few days. Now that’s some true dedication.
With Reddit clearly getting desperate, it has now threatened the moderators of both the subreddits to switch back or be terminated, arguing that both have not been “historically been considered NSFW”. Moderation teams for both subreddits have been given until tomorrow to revert back to normal content, though something tells me these people would rather go down fighting than give in to Reddit’s demands right now.
Even if both subreddits do have their moderation teams replaced, the slew of NSFW content will likely still resume, or both subreddits will go dark like so many others already have done. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what transpires.
