Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be even more dystopian than the base game, according to Keanu Reeves. The Johnny Silverhand actor gave us a little more insight into what we can expect from the expansion this September, promising that the new location, Dogtown, will be even darker than the rest of Night City.

This comes from the Xbox Showcase Extended, giving us a better look at some of the games that were highlighted during the main livestream on Sunday. Here,CD Projekt Redalso went into further detail on some of the changes that Phantom Liberty will introduce to the base game, such as the overhauled police system and drastic changes to how we interact with cyberware.

Listen to Reeves himself below, as he takes us through the kind of atmosphere we can expect in Dogtown. Surprise, surprise, it’s not the friendliest place in the world.

“Dogtown is going down to a darker place. It’s dystopian. It has tension to it and this undercurrent of violence.” Reeves then asks if he’s able to swear, before adding: “Shit’s gone down in Dogtown.”

“We’re all moths to the flame, aren’t we? There’s a lot of flame in Dogtown.”

Before Keanu Reeves took to the stage, we also heard from quest director Paweł Sasko. Here, he confirmed reports that Phantom Liberty is overhauling a whole bunch of base game features, making cyberware far more importantandseemingly making cops an actual threat.

“[Dogtown] is a place where you can find new illegal weapons and goods. They are some of the most powerful items in the world but often much more dangerous to use,” says Sasko, explaining some of the new gameplay mechanics we can expect from Phantom Liberty. “A new cyberware capacity system leads you to push your body to the limit, and gives you new abilities […] like an airdash or [seeing] enemies through walls, or [changing] your appearance to lose the heat.”

Sasko then goes over the police force of Dogtown, promising that they’ll be more dangerous than the NCPD. Here, we see them rough up a helpless civilian, much more brutal than the cops in the base game.

“We have completely overhauled the police system,” says Sakso. “Police actions are more believable, dynamic, and diverse.”

CD Projekt Red has already promised thatsome of these changes will be found in the base game too, not just the upcoming expansion. We’ll likely get more details on what exactly this will entail as we get closer to the release date, which as we know now, is set for Jul 04, 2025.
