The Summer Games Fest didn’t leave fans ofWarhammer 40kout of the loop. Shown was an all new in-game trailer for Space Marine 2. That’s right, Captain Titus is back from his run-in with orcs and the dreaded chaos space marines.

This time he has an all new enemy to face, and may even have some new toys and skills to fight them with. The trailer was short, but those who watched closely were shown some pretty exciting combat and even details that some fans may have missed out on.
8Large Scale Battles
Tyranids hunt en-masse, often overpowering their prey with sheer numbers alone. It would only make sense for Space Marine 2 to follow the lore here.
It seems they aim to do this spectacularly, as the amount of tyranids on screen is well into the hundreds in some cases. With the promise of mass battles and waves of enemies, it was only fitting to see an in-game example of this. We just hope there’s plenty of ammo to go around for Titus and his squad.
7Some Upgrades
Though he still doesn’t seem too big of a fan of wearing a helmet, Titus does seem to have some upgraded armor to help with this fight.

The classic Ultramarine’s blue is still present, but some nice new gold filigree and purity seals seem to adorn the armor. It will be interesting to see how the game keeps up with the lore about the new primaris space marines, or if it avoids dealing with that altogether.
6How Much Time Has Passed
Titus is still alive, obviously, although everyone was a little worried after the Inquisition got involved at the end of the first game.
It seems, though, that he has passed his test of faith with flying colors and is back on the battlefield. Keen eyes though will notice he has a few more service studs implanted into his forehead. Two more to be exact. The lore states that each of these usually stands for 100 years of service. Does this mean 200 years have passed since the first game? Not unlikely, seeing as how long space marines live.
Fighting off xenos can be lonely work, but it seems with enemies in the hundreds, Titus has brought some backup with him.
Backup that he hopefully won’t get separated from this time around. With a new co-op based campaign, it seems you and at least one friend can team up and bring death to any tyranid in your way. But, who will your friend play as? A new comrade of Titus' or a space marine with a lauded career of his own?
4A Classic Warhammer Arsenal
It wouldn’t be a Warhammer 40k game without some impressive weapons. Thankfully, from the trailer, it seems like Titus will have pleny of options. The classic bolter was front and center for most of the trailer, so fans of Boltgun will be excited to take that for a spin after their retro escapades. TheBolt PistolandChainsworddual wield are also present, and theThunder Hammerfrom the first Space Marine game as well.
It seems the bolt pistol had an extended clip, and there was also footage of the bolter with a pretty advanced scope on it, so there may even be different editions of these guns to find across the game. Fans were also shown a few clips of Titus wielding a heavy-bolter, that actually seemed to be chained to his arm at one moment. Heavy-bolters are a little unwieldy, even for space marines, but they’ll be great for cutting through hordes.
3Tyranid Types
Tyranids aren’t shy about fielding different unit types to wipe a planet clean of any biological matter, and the trailer showed a surprising amount of types we will be facing in game.

The classic hormagauntswere front and center, as well as similar smaller sized swarms of tyranids. As well as that, we saw plenty of flyingGargoylesand were even treated to a fight with a larger warrior-class tyranid with its four scythe-like claws. With it being a pretty early trailer, one can only wonder what larger and deadlier creatures they have in store on the planet.
2A World In Siege
Something that many overlooked was the setting itself, but those who paid attention saw a lot about the world you’ll be fighting in. The clips were quick, but there were large planetary defense weapons, places of industry, and even some rather fancy gothic architecture.
There isn’t much known about the planet the tyranids have chosen to invade, but it looks like it could bea forge worldor normally civilized planet. Whatever the role the tyranids have in invading the planet, it can’t be a good one. It may be for biomass, or something far sinister. The hive mind won’t be keen on you fighting back, but you’ll at least see some scenic views during your fights.
1New Melee Mechanics
During the combat shown in the trailer, there was an interesting piece of gameplay shown. One that could mean some pretty interesting changes from the first game. While wielding bolter and chainsword, Titus seems to parry the attack of a larger warrior-class creature, and then follows a chainsword attack up with a vicious bolt pistol shot to the head.
Will this mean combos that incorporate both weapons? A fighting system that benefits parrying, and maybe even dodging? It’s hard to say at the moment, but it would be interesting to see a refined melee combat system in a game about superhuman warriors. It was also interesting to see how attacking and parrying this larger creature sent the smaller tyranids flying too, which means there may be some important area of effect attacks in the mix for crowd control.
