Originally revealed as part of Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour earlier this year, Budokai Tenkaichi 4 caused a huge stir in the Dragon Ball community, which has wanted a new game in the series for more than a decade. Bandai Namco has been silent about the game since (not even officially releasing the reveal trailer or putting the game’s name on its website),which led many to believe that the Summer Showcase would be where it shows up next, especially after Bandai teased “exciting announcements”.
As Dragon Ball fans are painfully aware of by now, that’s not what happened, as Budokai Tenkaichi 4 was completely missed out from the showcase, leaving everyone waiting once more for more information on the game. Over on Twitter, Dragon Ball fans have been expressing their disappointment that we didn’t get to see the game, with many reactions making it clear that it was expected to be the “big surprise” that ended up being Jujutsu Kaisen.
For example,Twitter user DokkanAssets shared an image of the “one more surprise” imagethat showed up at the end of the showcase, saying, “I want to live in the timeline where this surprise was a new Budokai Tenkaichi 4 trailer”.They also shared the popular meme of The Deep running on-stage from The Boys, saying, “Bandai Namco revealing their final game knowing everyone was expecting Budokai Tenkaichi 4. (It was not BT4)”.
Meanwhile, popular anime insider PS360HD2 shared a meme saying"it looks fun but it ain’t", along with the caption, “Did we all just Imagine Tenkaichi 4 being announced ? Does it even exist”.Twitter user weeklysaiyan also seemed upset by the lack of Dragon Ball news, saying, “This has been the worst Anime Expo, you know we are all patiently waiting for additional Budokai Tenkaichi news, it has been 4 months since the announcement and nothing since then”.
With Anime Expo missing out on Dragon Ball news entirely, it now seems that most fans are expectingan update on Budokai Tenkaichi 4 at the next Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour, which currently doesn’t have a confirmed date, but will likely happen in early 2024. For now, we’ll just have to keep watching those glorious 15 seconds of footage we got this year.
