Now thatFinal Fantasy 16has been in the wild for a a few weeks, talk surrounding the game has naturally turned towards what plans producer Naoki Yoshida and the team have for any potential DLC. Yoshida has insisted that DLC was always going to be dependent on the reaction to the base game, though he has revealed in a new interview that he’d wanteveryone’s favorite walking thirst trap Cidolfus Telamonto be playable.

Speaking in an interview with Kakuchopurei, Yoshida explains that Cid’s “complex and background story” would make him the perfect character to focus on in a DLC, what with him having his backstory referenced several times in the base game and his established relationships with characters such as Benedikta. It would be an easy way to explore the realm of Valisthea before the events of Final Fantasy 16, and playing as a character as popular as Cid would be the cherry on top of the cake.

“Personally, I would make Cid playable,” explains Yoshida. “He is such an interesting character with his complex life and background story. This is not a business decision, but more a personal and creative decision to make him playable in a future content update.”

Later on, Yoshida is then asked which Eikons he’d like to potentially explore in some DLC, although he admits his pick for that might not fit into the story too well. He explains that he’d quite like to have Alexander as a playable Eikon, and that his time manipulation powers could be interesting for Clive to use in fights.

Judging from the reaction to Final Fantasy 16 from its fanbase, it’s safe to say that the game will probably be getting some DLC at some point, withthe team suggesting in a recent interview that it’s “thinking about” it. As for what it might be, fans already have their theories, including those hoping that the game’s causal name drop of Leviathan the Lost part ways into the game is an indication that we’ll get to see our big lizard boy once again.

Others think thata giant crystalline mass off the coast of Sanbrequecould have something to do with it, as no one actually knows what it is or where it came from. Some seem to think it could simply be the remnants of Drake’s Eye, the Mothercrystal that was destroyed by the Blight before the events of the game (which could be a DLC in itself really), though there’s little proof except the crystal chunk appears to be in Northern Territories.

Whatever Yoshida and his team plan for DLC, if it’s as impressive and in-depth as the base game is, then I’m sure many Final Fantasy fans will just be happy to run around and explore Valisthea again.
