Fission Batteries are portable power sources inFallout New Vegasthat can be found all over the wasteland. Although, if you don’t want to waste your time checking shacks or every nook and cranny you spot during your travels, you’re able to save some time scouring the REPCONN test site and headquarters, or the Securitron de-construction plant.

If you already have a bunch of Fission Batteries, or you need a reason to start gathering some, it turns out there are a fair amount of applications for these practical mementos of the pre-war era. Since you’re playing as a courier, you don’t mind a bit of extra reading, right? It’ll help you become extra resourceful, after all.

6Reprogram Primm Slim

As fate would have it, Primm Slim, that two century old protectron that’s been repurposed to be a greeter for the Vikki and Vance Casino, can serve an alternate purpose: enforcing the law as Primm’s new sheriff. Although, you’ll have to get to a certain point in the “My Kind of Town” quest, and use three Fission Batteries and four conductors on him before that happens.

Essentially, all you have to do is talk to Johnson Nash at the Vikki and Vance Casino, attempt to rescue Deputy Beagle at the Bison Steve Hotel, and talk to either Beagle after rescuing him, or return to Nash if Beagle died. From there, you’ll be asked to find a new sheriff for Primm, and Primm Slim is, of course, one of those options.

5Convert Them To Energy Cells

If you have the Honest Hearts DLC, and you fancy using weapons that need them, you can convert any extra Fission Batteries you have into energy cells, so long as you have the science level to do so. The exact conversion is one Fission Battery and five drained energy cells to make 25 fully charged, usable energy cells; If only you could do this inFallout 3.

This is great news if you’re using laser or plasma pistols, plasma defenders, pulse guns, sonic emitters, compliance regulators, or any other weapon you can slam an energy cell into. Also, since Fission Batteries are quite heavy, weighing around six kilograms, converting them to energy cells saves quite a bit of space for extra loot.

4Sell Them

If you’ve picked up too many, or you’re in need of some quick cash and willing to part ways with a few of them, Fission Batteries have a respectable base value of 75 caps. Keep in mind, though, the higher your barter skill is, the better selling prices you’ll get from merchants and traders.

In other words, it isn’t the best idea to try and sell Fission Batteries if your barter skill is fairly low. Optimally, you should try to sell higher value items with a minimum barter skill of 40, though 60 or higher is ideal.

Permanent perks, like “Tag!” or “Educated” can give nice boosts to your barter skill if you want to sink points into other skills.

3Make Repairs At Camp McCarran

If you want a place to buy permanently discounted food, you should head over to Camp MCCarran and talk to Corporal William Farber. This is the beginning of “Not Worth a Hill of Corn and Beans,” a hidden New California Republic quest where you’re tasked to fix the camp’s food processor.

Unless you have a Repair skill of 80, you’re going to have to gather a bunch of materials, including pilot lights, pressure cookers, conductors, fire hose nozzles, Fission Batteries, sensor modules, and a few other things. But hey, once it’s fixed, Farber will give you discounts on purified water, Pork n' Beans, and other items.

2Craft Sierra Madre Chips

If you own the Dead Money DLC, you’re able to grab a perk called Coin Operator. That is, of course, if you’re able to complete multiple Perception and Intelligence checks with Circle of Steel operative Christine Royce.

Be a polite conversationalist, otherwise, Christine won’t feel generous enough to give you access to the perk.

Once acquired, you can use one Fission Battery and two pieces of scrap metal to make some Sierra Madre Chips, which can either be spent at Sierra Madre vending machines, or the Sierra Madre Casino. Depending on the vending machine codes you’ve found, you can use the chips to get anything from food to ammunition, meds, and other items.

1Brew Some Moonshine

Why not honor a pre-war tradition and make some moonshine? The recipe calls for one Fission Battery, one Maize, two Mutfruit, and one Yeast, and can be cooked at either a campfire or an electric hot plate. Keep in mind, you will need to be at least level 75 in the Survival skill to actually make the moonshine.

To learn the recipe, you need to talk to Cass, the owner of Cassidy Caravans. Once you two get friendly with one another, and she joins you as a companion, she’ll teach you the recipe.
