Magic: The Gathering’s Lord of the Rings crossover has finally arrived inMTG Arena. Tales of Middle-earth sends Magic players on a journey through Tolkien’s fantasy world of elves, dwarves, orcs, and goblins, with a few hobbits thrown in for good measure.

As with every new expansion in Magic Arena, Tales of Middle-earth comes with its own Mastery Pass to provide fans with free and not-so-free loot. Let’s look at the rewards in Tales of Middle-earth and see how we can unlock them as quickly as our little hobbit feet can wobble.
What Is The Magic: The Gathering Arena Mastery Pass?
Magic Arena’s Mastery Pass is basically like a battle pass you’ll find in other live-service games, but with a special Magic twist. In addition toearning cosmeticsandin-game currency, you’ll also unlocknew cardsand earnbooster packsthat could unlock even more.
As with other games, there’s afree trackand apaid track. Everyone gets access to the rewards on the free track, but you have to shell out3,400 gems(or $19.99)to unlockthe rewards onthe paid track. There’s also a boosted version of the paid Mastery Pass that’ll give you the first 10 levels of rewards for 5,400 gems (which would cost you at least $35 to unlock).
The good news is that if you decide to go from the free to the paid tier, you’ll still get all the rewards from the previously paid tiers you didn’t get while you were still on the free track.Everything is rewarded retroactively.
The Tales of Middle-earth Mastery Pass will be available from now untilSeptember 5, 2023, which is coincidentally the release date of the next major expansion.
How To Level Up The Mastery Pass
Gaining levels on the Mastery Pass is done bygaining XP, and you do that by playing the game.Win games,complete quests, and gain more XP to level your Mastery Pass.
Each day, you’ll getthree daily queststhat’ll reward you with 500 XP and 750 Gold. These quests will require you to do certain things in-game, such as casting certain spell types or colors.Every level on the Mastery Pass takes 1,000 XP, so you can get a level and a half just for doing the daily quests.
There are alsodaily winsandweekly wins. The first 15 games you win each week will reward you with 250 XP, which comes to 3,750 XP every week. Daily wins provide a paltry 25 XP, but that still comes to4,125 XP per weekjust for doing the weekly wins quest.
That’s four levels every week on top of the 1.5 levels you get doing the daily quests, which means you can complete the entire Mastery Pass inless than six weeks if you play every day.
You can alsoskip levels by payingMagic Arena’s premium currency,gems. It costs 250 gems to skip a level, and since the Mastery Pass has 80 levels, it’d beveryexpensive to just pay to unlock all the rewards.

In addition to the Master Pass, there’s also a Mastery Tree. This secondary battle passonly provides cosmetic rewards, including extended artcard stylesandavatarsbased on your favorite Lord of the Rings characters.
To earn all these rewards, you’ll need to have receivedevery Mastery Orbavailableon the Mastery Pass. That means paying for the paid version and getting to level 78.
