PlayStation 5 owners who’ve pre-orderedFinal Fantasy 16have reported a mysterious new demo has appeared in their libraries. However, it can’t be downloaded just yet.The reports come from the Final Fantasy 16subreddit. At least two fans noted a Final Fantasy 16 demo is now visible in their PlayStation libraries. Square Enix stated that a demo would launch two weeks before the game, and with it coming out on June 22, the timeline adds up. However, not all pre-orders are reporting a demo appearing in their libraries, so it’s possible these demos were made visible too early in certain regions.Related:Final Fantasy Having Numbers Is The Entire PointSquare Enix has also announced aFinal Fantasy 16 pre-launch celebrationwill take place in Los Angeles on June 11 at 3 PM PT (6 PM ET), making it the most likely time for a demo to be announced. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

It’s great to see demos coming back into vogue. With triple-A prices in the $70 range, gamers are having to be choosier than ever when it comes to determining which games to buy. Capcom led the way with game demos for Resident Evil 4 Remake andMonster Hunter Rise, but Square Enix has also been at the forefront of the demo push withFinal Fantasy: Stranger in Paradise,Babylon’s Fall, andForspoken.

Another upcoming game that will likely get a demo is Tekken 8. Steam’s internal database was recently updated to include a “Tekken 8 Playtest,” although like Final Fantasy 16’s demo, it is not yet available for download. Tekken 8 still doesn’t have a release date, so this demo is more likely a test for Tekken 8’s servers and gameplay balance rather than an opportunity for players to experience the finished product before purchasing the game. Although, it might convince a few on-the-fence Tekken fans to pre-order the upcoming sequel.

We’ve seen a lot of Final Fantasy 16 so far, but one of the things that we haven’t seen in any of the trailers or promotional material is an airship. According to FF16 director Hiroshi Takai, that’s because there aren’t any. Travel across Valistheawill be performed by foot or by chocobo, with nary an airship to be found. This has some fans concerned about arduous travel in Final Fantasy 16’s world, although Takai did remind them that there will be a fast travel system available from the player’s map.

Final Fantasy 16 launches on June 22 only for PS5.
