Epic Gameshas revealed all of the changes coming to The Island inFortniteChapter 4, Season 3, and it seems that things are going to be especially different in the middle of the map, which has collapsed.
Today marks the release of Fortnite’s latest season, The Wilds, which, as has previously been rumoured, has a tropical jungle theme and introduces Optimus Prime as this update’s big crossover. As always, this season also changes up the map considerably, with some new points of interest added and some big changeups made to the overall layout of the map. It’s not quite as big as when a new chapter starts, but it’s still pretty significant.

This season’s new map was first showcased by reliable Fortnite insider HYPEX, who shared a full look at everything that’s changed this season. Instantly, the biggest thing that has changed is that the whole middle of the map has collapsed, revealing a new jungle setting underneath. This also seems to have happened to a part of the map in the North, removing some of the snow presumably to make way for some heat.
Although the new jungle area is seemingly the biggest change to the map this season, Epic has made it clear that the changes aren’t just for show. The Fortnite website notes that you can now fight in the canopies, and slide through mud on the jungle floor to gain camouflage, as well as using velociraptors to get around faster.
In fact, overall, it seems that this season’s map is fairly similar to what we had with the last season, only with the addition of a jungle instead of a big cityscape. The only big loss that we’ve seen this season is with Anvil Square, which collapsed underground and made way for the new jungle area. For those who don’t remember the fallen, Anvil Square was the old-timey area that was introduced alongside Geralt in Chapter 3, Season 2.Just like Shockwave Hammer, may it rest in peace.
As you can imagine, most of the new Points of Interest that can be found in this season are based in the jungle area.As showcased by the official Fortnite Twitter, the three new POIs that have been added this season are Shady Stilts, Creeky Compound, and Rumble Ruins.
Interestingly, despite being the big new addition to the game’s last season, it seems that Mega City is still sticking around for this season too. In fact, one of its core features, grind rails, has even made its way to the new parts of the map with a wooden vine retheme. Looks like Mega City will be sticking around for a while longer.
