How To Beat Necrophobe
Necrophobe is a tricky boss fight that likes to confuse anddisorient you with its movements. Later in the fight, this gets ramped up to eleven as it learns how toteleport.
The table below listsall of Necrophobe’s attacks. Learning how to recognize and then avoid these attacks is the key to success.
Description
Lightning Dash
Necrophobe makes a dashing attack at you. You’ll know this is coming because the boss will wreath itself in lightning beforehand and during.
Since you’ll be able to spot this attack easily, you should be able to time a Precision Dodge to the side with relative ease.
Sword Slash
Necrophobe aligns the floating orbs it has into a line and creates a sword along them. It then swings the sword at you.
This attack is easily dodged through and is a great attack to use a Precision Counter combo against.
Energy Ball
The orbs that float with Necrophobe spin in a circle for a moment before shooting out a ball of energy at you.
This is a simple filler attack. If you have Heatwave equipped, it’s the perfect attack to counter.
Elemental Dissonance
After being Staggered once, Necrophobe will take a moment to absorb the orbs that float around it. This will unlock the attacks listed below.
Sword Combo
Once in this phase, Necrophobe can use quick, multi-hit sword attacks. One version of this attack ends in a well-telegraphed thrust forward that shoots a beam of ice magic at you.
These combos often end with a burst of ice magic - don’t stop dodging until you see this happen or you see Necrophobe come to a complete stop.
Firaga
Necrophobe summons fireballs that totally surround it, which will fan out in a spiral pattern.
Move away from Necrophobe when this attack comes out. This will give you enough time to gauge where the safe zones are and then Lunge back in for some easy damage.
Dualcast: Firaga
Necrophobe uses Firaga twice in quick succession.
This gives you a far harder time trying to gauge where the safe zones are. It may be easier to move away and simply wait the attack out.
Blizzaga
Necrophobe charges and then fires a beam of ice magic in a line.
Once Necrophobe starts charging this attack, it cannot reorient itself. Dodge to the side and use the attack to get some easy damage in.
Dualcast: Blizzaga
Necrophobe uses Blizzaga twice in quick succession. This attack appears to have a wider radius than the normal version.
When the Dualcast version of this spell is used, remember that a second beam is imminent after the first.
Enfiraga
After charging up its sword with fire, Necrophobe makes an uppercut attack at you. This is very similar to Clive’s Rising Flames attack, so use that as a reference point.
Dodge away from this attack and get ready for the followup Enblizzaga.
Enblizzaga
Necrophobe charges up a very large radius of ice, signified by the ground turning blue. After charging, it spins in a circle, causing ice to erupt out of the ground.
Either get out of the attack radius or time a Precision Dodge through the damage. As you may obviously see when Necrophobe is about to trigger the attack, this isn’t a bad idea.
Enthundaga
Necrophobe creates multiple pools of electricity across the battlefield that will eventually get struck with lightning. It will often chain this into a Lightning Dash to try and catch you off-guard.
Dodge out of the pools of electricity, but do not take your eye of Necrophobe - especially if it teleports away from you.
This fight is split into four distinct phases:
While the fight gradually ramps up in difficulty, the jumps are not too significant, so you should be able to adapt on the fly. The main things to look out for are Necrophobe’smelee attacks, which are quicker than you might think, and when ittransitions from single-casting to Dualcastingits spells.
Since Necrophobe is very flighty, it’s a good idea toavoid abilities that require chargingto be at their most potent, such asUpheaval.
If Necrophobe’s Stagger gauge is near either the halfway mark or zero, try to make an effort to push it over the threshold if it starts using itsEn-spell combo.
Interrupting this attack is obviously useful, but moreso as you’ll avoid the trickiest move in Necrophobe’s arsenal,Enthundaga.
Once you come out of this battle successful, you’ll receive the following rewards:
