The dungeon sees you fight new abnormalities such as the Fairy Gentleman and Shock Centipede, which both have unique battle mechanics that require you to carefully play around their passive abilities in order to defeat them. The final boss is no slouch either, testing your endurance to work through thousands of hitpoints.
Best Team For The Chapter Four Dungeon
Unseen in previous chapters are boss fights that rope inseven instead of five party members. A taste of this can be felt in the battle against Donbaek outside the dungeon. Two more fights like this will appear at the end of the dungeon, so you’ll want to plan accordingly and haveseven battle-ready characters.
You won’t need to level them all the way to the level cap, thankfully:the dungeon can be reliably beaten with a level 30 team.
Yi Sang is mandatory for all fights in this dungeon, but he and his gear will be upgraded to the level cap. Equipping an identity with high speed allows him to open rounds with EGO attacks.
All of his identities have high speed, with theSeven Associationidentity having slightly more than the others. It can also inflict paralyze, which will be useful in the final boss.
Similar to the previous dungeons and the Refraction Railway, you’ll be able toconserve your sins, the resource used for special attacks, between combat.
A strong strategy isbuilding up a stockpile of sin affinities in the early level of the dungeonand then use these to fuel your powerful EGO moves in the later bosses.
Envy, Gloom and Sloth
Free
Chains of Others can completely lock down most boss fights.
The speed and power debuffs can be used to set up a turn where the boss hits like tissue paper, and you can slap them around freely.
Gluttony, Sloth
Battlepass Reward
Legerdemain is a cheap and reusable AoE tool that also has the niceupside of bursting tremor, which will accumulate more easily in this dungeon.
Overclocking it replaces the tremor burst with bleed, but reduces the power while on high sanity.
Pride and Gluttony
You’ll wanta character able to regenerate SP across the entire group.
Faust is one of the strongest characters for this, both with her base EGO Representation Emitter and her tier three identity, The One Who Grips.
Building a team able to generate the resources to use her EGO repeatedly should allowyour sanity to quickly go from zero to full on the entire team.
Wrath, Gluttony and Sloth
With Yi Sang a mandatory character in this dungeon, you’ll want a way for him to contribute to fights. His Crow’s Eye view EGO can clash well, and4th match flame can deal damage in an area.
Gluttony and Sloth
No
Dimension shredder can win clashes with a boggling 38 strength andaccumulates bonus damage for the next timeit is used.
Crow’s Eye View can substitute for thisin terms of clashing but won’t deal the same damage.
Wrath, Sloth and Lust
Meursault is good at tanking damage, but this EGO lets himclash with enemy attacks.
If he wins the coin toss, he has anunbeatable 35 attack swing, and if he loses the coin toss he’ll still be able to survive because he’s Meursault.
The gluttony resistance this EGO provides also helps him to survivein this the later boss fights.
Choose your identities according to the Sin resources you need:Gluttony and Sloth are both in high demand, but envy is also a frequently used sin for the Heathcliff’s Bodybag and the triad of Telepole EGOs.
You don’t need every EGO on the list and can adapt the team to meet what you have access to.A team with lots of lust resources can utilise The One Who Grips Faust’s passiveto maintain high sanity whileusing Lifetime Stew and Roseate Desireto win clashes and deal damage.
Certain identities will perform well in the dungeon independent of EGO.
Use the opening fights tobuild up your resources. If youdon’t use EGO in the opening fights, you can enter the first boss fight with an easy stockpile of 20+ across four different resources.
The positioning of checkpoints willprevent you from going into boss fights with a full sanity meterbut also means a defeat will never set you far back.
How To Beat Fairy Gentleman
As you fight the Fairy Gentleman, he’llinflict Morale Boost against everyone he clashes with. Your goal is toaccumulate five stacks of this on a single character.
It’ll give them+50 percent damage dealtand taunt his big attack to hit that character. The unclashable “I’ll have this” attack he uses can’t be defended against now, but shouldn’t do enough damage to endanger anyone here.
After a few turns, he’ll spawn an additional unit, the fairy wine. Wait before attacking it.
When he uses his"I’ll have this" attack for the second time, have the character he’s targeting hit the fairy wine, ‘drinking’ it. The Morale Boost will be converted into Tipsy.
If you managed to gather five stacks of the effect,he’ll be immediately stunned on attacking the tipsy character. Otherwise, the attack will deal no damage to the Tipsy character and remove the effect.
The two attacks after the first willplay out as normal if he isn’t staggered, so be prepared toblock them with EGOsif you weren’t able to get all the stacks.
If you manage to pull off the gimmick, it’s easy to rack up damage on him from the stagger. Otherwise, you may stilljust overpower him the slower way.
Don’t panic about any injuries from this fight, as there isa healing room immediately after.
How To Beat So That No One Will Cry (Talisman Golem)
The Fairy Gentleman was a warm-up round for how this boss’s puzzle mechanic works.
Instead of activating on clashes, this boss willinflict Talismans whenever he uses an ability. The talismans aren’t harmful if youkeep them below nine stacksand ever offer a small damage boost. Above 9 stacksthey’ll make clashing harderby reducing your power.
You’ll want toopen this fight with sanity restoring EGOs.
There isa high difficulty skill check partway through the fight that you’ll need to pass, or he’ll be able to set up his 120 damage multi-hit attack.
When he uses his defensive move Transferring Talisman, all talismans on the target will be reattached to him and provide debuffs. The goal this time is to get 12 talismans on him, causing him to lose five attack power: He’ll use two blocks at a time, meaning that you have two chances to hit the goal.
If you aren’t able to land the talismans, swing into him this turn with Meursault’s Chains of Otherson this turn, as it will provide an equivalent debuff.
After its blocking turn,it will use a pair of powerful five-hit attacks. If you have the talismans on him, the attack debuff should stop him from doing much with it.
Otherwise, swing into it with your strongest skills to counter it: Abnormalities don’t have a sanity score, so they’ll generally only land half their coin tosses.
This means the attack averages a 12 or so when clashing despite being able to inflict several times that in damage. This attack is only scary if you allow it to hit unhindered.
This boss’s passive ability, Spreading Ember, reflects burn damage it receives to all enemiescarrying a talisman (most likely your entire group).Do not try to set him on fire.
How To Beat Drifting Fox
This fight seems intimidating because of thefour additional enemiesthat spawn alongside it. You have five sinners and there are eight attacks coming your way.
The Old Umbrella minions do basically no damagebut inflict sanity debuffs, whilethe fox is capable of outclashing most characters at zero sanity.
Blocking the fox is your main priority, even if you need to use four EGO moves on the first turn.
Open the fight with your strongest sanity-restoring move —typically representation emitter or fluid sac with Faust. It will use sanity depleting moves at intervals, but once you start winning clashes, they should be manageable.
You have two strategies available for this fight: winning witheither endurance or overwhelming power.
For winning, you’ll get theSunshower EGO giftthat boosts the power of your team every turn that you use an AoE attack.
How To Beat Shock Centipede
The Shock Centipede battle is all about endurance. At regular intervals, it willcreate a shield with HP equal to the head. If you break the head, it will stun itself trying to regenerate the shield.
The Self-Charging buff this boss applies to itself means that, as longas it doesn’t lose clashes, it can’t actually die. This makes it resistant to the strategy of other abnormality fights of just piling damage on while ignoring its unique mechanic.
You can still force your way through this by breaking the head. When it fails to regenerate the shield, it will lose all charges of the buff, leaving it open for you to finish it off before it regains charge.
While it issurviving on one HP from its Self-Charging Buff,it will use a pair of powerful attacks each turn.
These will rapidly consume its charge but canhit hard if you don’t deflect them with a strong moveof your own.
How To Beat Dongrang
This fight allows you tobring seven sinners, butbringing a smaller number will add additional moves each turnuntil you have seven. If you don’t have a strong sixth and seventh team member, you can go without them.
Phase 1
You’ll want to open the fight bystockpiling as much sanity as you canbefore he starts to dial up his attacks. Repeatedly use EGOs that restore sanity, such asFaust’s Representation Emitter and Fluid Sack.
Dongrang will open the fight witha move that marks a single target that all of his abilities next turn will target, as well as multiplying their damage.
Swing into this using with Meursault using Chains Of Others. The bind ensures you may redirect attacks and the attack down makes them easy to deflect.
Phase 2
After a few turns of this, he’ll enter asecond phase, summoning four trees. He’ll then start targeting the trees with attacks, gaining buffs for each one he kills.
You’ll want tocontinue intercepting his attacks while trying to kill the treesyourself. The finishing blow must still be dealt by Dongrang, but once you’ve reduced the tree to one health, he will instead be debuffed after eating them.
If you perform this correctly on all four trees,Dongrang will become staggered for a turn, and you can pile on for hundreds of damage.
Once the first set trees are destroyed, and he’s been staggered,Dongrang will repeatedly use a weak move inflicts rupture on himself when it is blocked.Power through however many hitpoints he has left and get ready for the next phase.
Phase 3
He’ll repeat the cycle with a different type of tree, this time weaving in apowerful wrath AoE attack “It’s all burned up”.
Ittargets the entire party, debuffing them and healing himself. You’ll want something able toconsistently beat it in a clashsince it landing willeither greatly damage your party or absorb power from up to six trees at once.
Its highest roll is a 23, which can compete against many EGO attacks if you don’t have high sanity. Thankfully, you’ve goteveryone at 40 sanity or higherby using Faust’s Representation Emitter every turn.Slam into it with any powerful moveto bulldoze through it.
The trees in this phase can be killed by you, giving heals and attack buffs for doing so.
you’re able to eitherthrow some attacks from any wounded sinners at them or just splash them with AoE attacks while continuing to focus Dongrang.
How To Beat Farmwatch Dongrang
This fight opens similar to the last one, onlynow the trees are able to attack you. There’ll be eight attacks flying out, and you only have seven sinners to meet them:one of the attacks will get through.
The trees don’t hit hard, butinflict a stacking debuffthat means you’ll want to choose a different person to be hit each time.
Yi Sangwill have a unique buff during this battle. As long as another party member is alive, he can’t die.
This phase lasts until he isbrought below 85 percent HP.
Open the fight the same as last time: your sanity has been reset again, and you’ll want to use representation emitter to get it up quickly.
Mix in as many other AoE attacks as you can so that you can eliminate the trees quickly. On top of attacking you and inflicting debuffs, the trees provide bonuses to Dongrangfor as long as they’re on the battlefield.
If you deal enough splash damage in the first turnyou can kill one of the trees before it attacks.
If you have the Sin Resources to spare, use as many EGO attacks as possible in the opening. Each one you use will activate their passive, giving you small but stacking bonuses over the length of the fight. Prioritise EGO without a sanity cost to begin with.
If a character reaches full stacks of the seeds effect, they will be trapped inside a tree. The tree will make Dongrang stronger and leech health from your sinner, butit is easy to kill, which will free them.
At the end of each phase, you’ll be given event.Anyone EXCEPT Yi Sangshould be able to pass it with high sanity.
This phase lasts between85 and 50 percent HP.
At this phase, he’llsummon two more trees and shake up the attack pattern with a new move.
He’ll also startusing more moves per turn, letting him match your seven with himself and the two new trees. Make use of theSunshower EGO gift you got earlier by weaving in an AoE attackevery turn to buff your other moves.
This will alsoremove the trees again.
His attacks in this phase willinflict the Overhealing debuff. This does nothing by itself but won’t be removed, and he canpop it later for massive damage.
The Time of Harvest attack hits like a truck, inflicts a massive amount of debuffs andheals Dongrang. He’ll also use three of it at once.
On the turn you bring him below 50 percent HP, it can help tohit him with a move that inflicts paralyze, as well as hit him with Meursault’s Chains of Others again.
Two more treeswill appear in this phase, and this time he’ll use a seven hit AoE movePlease Be My Nutrient.
If youparalyzed him last round, this is easily blockable; otherwise, you’ll want to use your strongest EGO to block it. With a clashing power of 27 on a heads, this can be hard to overcome.
Sanity should be on your side: if you’ve been winning the fight handily,he’ll have negative sanity, letting you roll over him.
Keepblocking the moves that provide him with healingor that inflict you with overhealing. This two-hit combo is the main tool he has for reversing the fight and,as long as you’re able to consistently deny at least half of it, he’ll eventually wither under your attacks.
If you’re forced to choose, block the overhealing attacks. The debuff cannot be removed once applied, and eventually he’s liable to land a healing move.
If you manage toblock his AoE attacks and keep all seven sinners alive, the remaining fight is a victory lap. Overclock all your attacks, burst tremor a hundred at a time or see how many nails can be stacked on a single enemy before the bleeding finishes him.
The fight ends with onefinal skill check(this one you can’t lose), and from there out its cutscenes all the way. Take flight and stretch your legs on the way out of the dungeon.
