Final Fantasy 16boasts a good number of Mark Hunts - elite and dangerous beasts that need putting down for the good of the realm. It’s a concept that dates back several mainline entries, and there hasn’t been a numbered Final Fantasy installment that’s skipped the chance to include them since. WIth its action-packed approach to combat, FF16’s are among the most fun to best.

And best them you will, so long as you know what you’re doing. Which is where we come in, of course. We’ve knocked them all down so follow our lead, and you’ll soon do the same to this angriest of turtles, the Fastitacolon himself.
Where To Find Fastitocalon
The Fastitocalon is located in theDhalmekian Republicopen region’sVelkroy Desertarea. The exact spot it spawns sort of straddles the area designated as Northern Velkroy Desert, but the map separates the two locations in such a fashion that Fastitocalon is at a northeast corner of the zone thatisn’tconsidered to be ‘northern’.
If you’re arriving from the Velkroy Desert fast travel obelisk, head east until Clive’s standing roughly where the ‘Velkroy Desert’ text is written on the map, then go northeast until you spot your sizable quarry.
How To Defeat Fastitocalon
If you’ve seen the Adamantoises out Rosaria way, you’ll know that this big bugger will bespinning on its shellfairly frequently. Getting caught up in the spin inflicts massive damage; it doesn’t happen all at once, but ratherhits Clive several times, chipping away chunks of HP. Once you’re swept into the strike, it’s pretty tough to get out midway.
The solution, then, is of course toavoid coming into range with the Fastitocalon while it’s spinning. Furthermore, and arguably less innately intuitive, keep your distance for a few secondsafterit’s done spinning.
When the Fastitocalon spins but drums up a great whirlwind of sand around it rather than going on the immediate offensive, it will be usingWater Cannonmultiple times to take aquatic shots at Clive whilst safely concealed within the gust. Keep Clive moving during this phase and you should be able to avoid them all with ease.
Testudo Trompeis the Fastitocalon’s big attack.Don’t be fooled by the water spoutsthat spawn around it; there’s plenty of space to step between two of them and escape the area of effect entirely. That said, the Fastitocalon will come spinning swiftly toward Clive at the end of the attack. Try toParrythis if you’re able to, or at leastPrecision Dodgeit, because either approach will give you a longer-than-usual amount of time to get hits in.
In our experience, the best way to get rid of this thing is to whittle away at it with the sort of chip damage its own attacks tend to do. That meansWill-o'-the-WykesandGougecombos up to however high you’re able to get them before you need to get out of its way. That meansJudgment Boltin tandem with well-timedPrecision SicsandPhoenix Shiftto keep on-target while you go ham.
Enjoy Clive’s cheesy post-battle line as well as your quest reward!
