Final Fantasy 16won’t make his sudden need to protect this woman easy, though, as after dispatching a group of Ironblood Crusaders, Clive’s final companion, Tiamat, turns on him. Read on to discover how to defeat this nasty member of The Bastards. It’s not a tough fight, but there are a few tricks up Tiamat’s sleeves.

How To Beat Tiamat

The fight against Tiamat is a simple one, made simpler by the fact thathe has no buddiesto help him as Shiva’s Dominant did.

Description

Sword Strike

Tiamat has a range of simple sword strikes to use. All of them are downward swings, so be on the lookout for Tiamat raising his sword in the air - this is a good signal to dodge.

One variation of this attack is a gap-closer - Tiamat will run at you and swing his sword when close. This is a good attack to bait out for a Precision Counter.

Forward Lunge

A specific attack to look out for is a sword strike combined with a lunge forward. Tiamat will follow this up with a spinning attack, so don’t get greedy.

Dodge the initial attack, and then move in for a counter after Tiamat has spun around to take full advantage of this attack.

Magic Burst

Tiamat fires a burst of magic at you. When low on health, Tiamat may use this multiple times in quick succession.

This is a single pellet of magic and is very easy to dodge, but you may be caught unawares at range.

Magic Finisher

Tiamat will follow up a melee attack with a punch, which bursts with magic.

Be wary of Tiamat’s attacks after Staggering him once, as this is when he’ll start using this follow-up.

Enruin

Tiamat will enchant his sword with magic and then perform a multiple-hit combo.

Avoid this attack simply by moving away from Tiamat. Stay close and dodge the strikes for Precision Counters if you’re feeling confident, though.

As with most bosses in the game, Tiamat will gain more attacks after being Staggered for the first time. Namely, he will start usingMagic Finisher after certain melee attacks, and begin usingEnruin. Overall, though, the fight largely stays the same. The best way to handle this fight is tofocus on Precision Dodges and Precision Counters- this is a great opportunity to practice your timing.

Tiamat is a very evasive enemyand will dodge around a lot. This isn’t usually a problem as Clive has plenty of ways to keep close to him, but try tosave your ability usesforaftera dodge, so you don’t waste it.

Magic Burst, like Blizzard in the previous battle, is a good ability to useHeatwaveagainst. Properly timed, you’ll be able to absorb the attack and fire off a long-range counter with far higher Stagger damage than usual.
