After fighting a few waves of mysterious monsters summoned by Typhon and an onlooker who calls himself Ultima, Typhon will manage to break free from Ramuh’s staff that pinned him to the wall, and you’ll have to take him on.

How To Beat Typhon

As with most iconic boss fights, the fight against Typhon is actually split intotwo phases. After performing aCinematic Evasionin a sequence that begins after defeating the final Wraith of the third wave of monsters, you’ll fight Typhon as Ifrit.

Unlike the fight against Garuda, you’ll notice that you actually have some more abilities and finer control over Ifrit’s movements in this battle, reflecting Clive’s ability to embrace this power.Read over the tutorial that gives you information about Ifrit’s new abilities, and then begin the fight.

Final Fantasy 16 - Typhon’s Unending Clamor

You will begin this fight with sixFirelights, usable as items with the right directional button. These function ashealing itemsand should be used only when you’re quite low on health to avoid overhealing and wasting them.

Typhon has some nasty attacks to deal with. The table below details them.

Final Fantasy 16 - Typhon’s ultimate attack

Description

Overhead Slam

Typhon raises his arm into the air and slams it down. There is also a similar attack where Typhon uses both arms to make a slashing attack in the shape of a cross.

This attack has decent tracking but is easily avoided. Either try for a Precision Dodge or simply use Wildfire to create enough distance between you and the boss to avoid it entirely. You can then counter with a quick Fireball.

Underhand Swipe

Typhon places his hand near the ground and then raises it up into the air in a swipe. A blade of energy will shoot out in a vertical line from the swipe.

Be wary of the ranged attack that comes out from this, as it’s very fast and can be difficult to react to.

Thrusting Attack

Typhon pulls his arm behind him and charges it with energy before lunging forwards with a punching thrust.

This is a fast attack and has considerable range, but is also very easy to spot. Be ready to dodge out of the way when the attack comes out.

Unending Clamor

Typhon teleports away from you and summons a massive zone of purple energy underneath you. After a while, this will explode.

You’ll be given a quick tutorial on avoiding this move when it first occurs - simply use Wildfire to dash directly out of the damaging zone before it explodes.

Scattergun

Typhon holds both hands in front of him and shoots out a massive array of energy balls at you.

These energy balls don’t deal too much damage, so it’s not a big deal to let them hit you if dodging them would interrupt a combo.

Laser Pointer

Typhon will point at you, charging up a laser. After a moment, the laser will shoot at you.

To avoid this, simply wait out the laser and dodge as soon as the attack begins. This should be an easy attack to get a Precision Counter from.

Blueflame Explosion

Typhon will fire short lasers from each of his fingers at the ground behind him, before sweeping them forward, creating an area of blue ground in front of him. After a short while, the area in front of him will explode.

Move behind Typhon during this attack - it’s a safe zone and you’ll be able to get some easy damage in.

While the actual damaging portions of Typhon’s attacks are very quick,Typhon himself is a sluggish boss. In addition, his attacks have quite longcooldowns, making it very easy to get in some easy damage between dodging his attacks.

It’s a good idea to use these long cooldowns topractice executing Backdraftattacks, as they are Ifrit’s most reliable way of inflicting high damage at the moment. This is also a great time to get used to using Wildfire not only as an evasion tactic but to close the distance between you and the boss.

This phase of the fight isn’t too difficult - just be ready to deal withUnending Clamorand keep the pressure on the boss. You don’t have many ways to maximize your damage during the boss’s Stagger portions, justtry to fit in as many Backdraft attacksas possible.

Once you take out Typhon’s health bar, a cutscene will play, and you’ll progress to the second phase of the fight:Typhon the Transgressor.

How To Beat Typhon The Transgressor

You can consider the initial battle against Typhon a warmup - this is where the real difficulty kicks in. Typhon the Transgressor is a far more agile boss than his previous form, and his attacks are suitably more dangerous as a result:

In addition to the upgraded attacks, Typhon the Transgressor gets some fancy new tricks.

Demon Wall

Typhon will teleport away from you and then start summoning large walls that span the entire battlefield apart from small gaps. They will then fly at you.

You must use Wildfire to dash to the gaps in the walls as they fly at you, or you’ll take high damage from the walls crashing into you. Typhon summons five walls in succession, with the final wall’s gap always being directly in front of him.

Spinning Attack

Typhon spins in place, using his arms as weapons and also emitting multiple shockwaves.

Stay away from Typhon to avoid the melee attacks and jump over the shockwaves that he emits.

Catacecaumene

There are two parts to this attack. The first is summoning puddles of energy that pop up across the battlefield that eventually explode, the second is calling down pillars of damaging energy across the battlefield. This attack will be overlapped with an Unending Clamor.

Stay wary when this attack comes out. Simply move out of any puddles that form under you, don’t get anxious and dodge into a pillar, and wait for the huge puddle at the end of the attack. When the Unending Clamor puddle arrives, use Wildfire to dash out of it.

While you’ll have to attribute more time to dodging in this fight, try to keep up the damage. The longer the fight goes on, the more likely you are to lose the war of attrition and run out ofFirelights. As a reminder, use them sparingly so you don’t end up overhealing and wasting your limited charges.

WhenTyphon teleports away from you, it’s a good idea tostop what you’re doinguntil you find out what attack he’s preparing to use and react accordingly. While you can expect Unending Clamor to be used directly after Catacecaumene,Typhon can also still use it on its own.

Despite how significantly his regular attacks are upgraded,Typhon still suffers a huge amount of cooldown from his basic Overhead Smash attack. Use this to your advantage and get as much damage in when he uses this attack.

When he gets very low on health, a cinematic sequence will begin. You’ll be prompted to perform aCinematic Evasion, followed by aCinematic Clash. After completing this, the boss fight will be over.
