Honkai: Star Railgives you a few free characters when you start playing. One of these is Dan Heng, a four-star character who specializes in single-target Wind damage, belonging to the Path of the Hunt. As a free character, Dan Heng is surprisingly decent; he is also the only Wind character you get for free.
As a single-target DPS, Dan Heng can deal substantial damage with his Ultimate and inflict Break on enemies with a weakness to Wind. His Skill reduces enemy SPD when it crits, which is excellent for manipulating the turn order, and whenever he receives a buff, his next attack will do more Wind damage to his target.

Best Relics And Planar Ornaments For Dan Heng
Dan Heng benefits a lot fromequipping ATK, Wind DMG, and SPD-based Relics. He also needs to have a healthy supply of Critical Rate to ensure his Skill inflicts a SPD penalty on his enemies.
Due to this, you’re able to pick between two main Relic sets for Dan Heng, namely theMusketeer of Wild Wheat and the Eagle of Twilight Line. The latter can only be obtained later in the game, so you should use the Musketeer set until you can switch it out.
Relics
Eagle of Twilight Line
This is the best in slot Relic set for Dan Hengdue to both its two-piece and four-piece bonus. Dan Heng already buffs his Ultimate DMG if he applies slow on the enemies.
This set gives it an extra boost byallowing him to get a turn faster after using his Ultimate.
Musketeer of Wild Wheat
As mentioned above, this Relic set is a decent substitute for Dan Heng until you can get the Eagle of Twilight Lane. Dan Heng canmake use of all the bonusesprovided by this set.
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters
This set increases Dan Heng’s DMG to debuffed enemies while alsoincreasing his Crit Rate by eight percent and Crit DMG by a whopping 24 percent. However, you have to meet a few conditions for this.

Dan Heng already wants to have a high Crit Rate for his Skill, sothis set becomes the best in slot for himwhen it comes to Ornaments.
Space Sealing Station
This can be a great early-game Ornament set for Dan Heng since it gives you some much-needed ATKwhile also being easy to farm because of the lower World.
Inert Salsotto
Inert Salsotto can be a decent choice for Dan Heng sinceit increases his Crit Rate and Ultimate DMG. However, the follow-up DMG increase is useless to him.
Firmament Frontline: Glamoth
While playing Dan Heng, it’s almost necessary to haveover 135 SPD so that you can get a lot of turns on him. This set capitalizes on this by giving you a 12 percent DMG bonus on that SPD.
When looking for Main Stats on your Relics, Dan Heng should bebuilt like any other DPS character.

Crit DMG/Rate > SPD
SPD is an important stat for Dan Heng,especially when paired with the four-piece Eagle of Twilight Line Relics. Giving him more SPD means he can act again faster after his turn whileslowing enemies when scoring critical hitswith his Skill. You can also look for a bit of HP or DEF here and there to make him a little more sustainable.
Best Light Cones For Dan Heng
There aren’t many free-to-play Light Cones that are great for Dan Heng, which means he willbenefit most from the four and five-star Light Conesyou get from pulling on the Gacha Banners.
If you don’t have any of his better Light Cones, hisbest F2P option is Darting Arrow.Otherwise, you should consider some of the following Light Cones for Dan Heng:
In the Night
Due to the benefit this provides based on your SPD, you will find it synergizes extremely well with Dan Heng’s Relic choices. It increases yourCrit rate, and your ATK based on how much SPD you have.
Not to mention, it increases the Crit DMG of your Ultimate by 12 percent, all of which can stack six times. Perfect for Dan Heng.
Cruising in the Stellar Sea
Crit Rate is quite an important stat for Dan Heng, andyou need over 70 percent if you’re using the Rutilant Arena set. This set gives you a straight 16 percent Crit Rate boost at Superimposition Five, which is quite easy to get since it’s free-to-play friendly.
You can get an extra 16 percent Crit Rate against enemies with low HP, but this isn’t counted for the 70 percent of the Ornament set. Finally, your ATK increases whenever you defeat an enemy,which makes him better against a group of smaller enemies.
Baptism of Pure Thought
If you’re planning to use the Pioneer set on Dan Heng, this Light Cone makes for the perfect counterpart as it increases your Crit DMG based on the number of debuffs on the enemy, whichrequires the same amount of maximum debuffs as the set.
It can also boost Dan Heng’s Ultimate DMG, though the DEF shred for the follow-up attack is useless on him.
Only Silence Remains
This Light Cone fits Dan Heng perfectly since it increases your ATK while giving you aCrit Rate boost when there are two or fewer enemies on the field. He isn’t particularly good against a horde of enemies so this is perfect for him.
Return to Darkness
Return to Darkness is an excellent option for Dan Heng, but the problem is that it’sonly obtained from buying the Battle Pass. It does focus on Crit rate, but the real benefit is the chance toremove one enemy buffwhen scoring a Crit on them.
Darting Arrow
The pickings are slim when it comes to decent three-star Path of the Hunt Light Cones. It’s simple but effective,Darting Arrow increases your ATKwhen you defeat an enemy.
The best thing is that you will possibly have multiple copies, meaning you canSuperimpose this to rank five with ease.
Dan Heng Traces Overview And Priority

Skill
Deals Wind DMG to a single enemy, stronger than a Basic Attack. This Skill hits multiple times. If this attack crits, there is a 100 percent chance to reduce the target’s SPD by 12 percent.
Ethereal Dream
Ultimate
Deals huge Wind DMG to one enemy. If the target is slowed, the attack deals even more damage.

Talent
When Dan Heng is the target of any ability – shield, buff, or healing – his next attack has Wind Resistance Penetration increased by a certain amount. Can only be triggered once every two turns.

Increase Dan Heng’s attack by 40 percent at the start of the next battle.
Faster Than Light
Bonus Ability
After attacking, Dan Heng has a 50 percent chance to increase his SPD by 20 percent for two turns.
High Gale
Dan Heng’s Basic Attack does 40 percent more damage to Slowed enemies.
Hidden Dragon
When your HP is lower than 50 percent, Dan Heng’s chance of being targeted is reduced.
As you can see from his abilities, his playstyle is extremely geared towarddealing damage, slowing enemies, and increasing his SPD. His other Traces increase hisATK and Wind DMGand should be unlocked according to your preference.
The more you can slow enemies, the more damage Dan Heng will do to them.
