This can provide a strange set of contradictory needs such as when colonists need heat-insulated clothing to survive harsh winters but will also insist on wearing the top hats and garden dresses befitting their noble status. The ways of nobility can be hard to grasp and that is why it can help to have a reference you can go back to.

How To Gain Royal Titles In Rimworld

The Royalty DLC adds a unique currencythat can only be spent with the new Empire faction. Certain quests they offerwill include Honour as a reward option.

Unlike other currencies, honour is bound to the colonist, and you will have to choose who accepts the request and earns honour from its completion. You can also obtain honourfrom imperial tribute collectors.

The bestowing ceremony in Rimworld grants royal titles and psionic powers

This special type of trade caravan arrives about once a year andwill sell honour in exchange for gold or slaves. Each point of honour costs nearly 70 gold, while a healthy (able to at least walk) slave will fetch three points.

Unless you have an ideology that permits slavery, selling live humans into bondagewill cause a strong mood penalty for all your non-psychopathic colonists. But as long as you’re going to do it, you might as well make some extra money on the sideby taking their non-essential organs:One lung and one kidney.

A imperial psycaster prepares to call thunder down on a group of raiders in Rimworld.

Gaining certain thresholds of honourwill reward you with a royal title, and the privileges attached to it.This includesaccess to the Empire’s psycasts, and powerful spell-like abilitieswielded by imperial nobility.

Each title beyond the first comes with a bestowing ceremony, where an imperial priest will visit your colony to formalise the new title.Holding the ceremony in an impressive roomwith strong attendance will provide additional honour.

This ceremony alsobestows an additional level of psionic powerto your noble.

Who To Give Your Royal Titles To

The person you give your royal title to will invariably have the position go to their head, asthey will expect better treatmentthan the other people in your colony andmake arbitrary demands that will anger them if left unmet. At the higher end of the royal titles, they will demandexpensive and ornate bedrooms, lavish mealsprepared by skilled chefsand only the finest of clothesin both material and craft skills.

If playing with the Ideology expansion it can make for a fitting story toappoint your colony’s leader as a noble. Both positions benefit from strong social skills, and anoble title is needed in order to barter with imperial traders, where ahigh social skill gives you better prices.

A high quality throne room and celebration hall in Rimworld.

Avoid giving titles to pawns with greedy, jealous or abrasive traits, as these ‘conceited’ traitsall have a special interaction with the title system that increases their demands. They will refuse to do workthat is ‘beneath them’such as most types of manual labour, and haseven higher expectations for luxury.

Colonists withthe ascetic traithave an inverse response to conceited colonists. They willignore certain aspects of royal prestigesuch as wanting higher quality food and special clothing. Ascetics will still benefit from a good throne room.

Rimworld nobles at high levels will insist on eating lavish foods, which require more ingredients and skilled chefs

The other consideration for assigning honouryou should include is what role they can serve as a psycaster.Youcannot choose what psycasts are awardedby the empireduring ceremonies but can obtain new ones from imperial traders or as quest rewards.

A strong psycaster can single-handedly repel large raiding partiesby conjuring bullet-repelling shields and driving enemies to madly attack each other. All psycasters benefit from traits and genes impacting psychic sensitivity,so a colonist with psychic hypersensitivity will be able to cast more spells in succession.

Best Skills And Traits

Combat focused

High melee and ranged combat.

Combat-oriented traits such as Tough or Trigger happy.

Entitling an already strong fighter with additional versatility. A melee warrior can learn the skip psycast that allows them to teleport, easily closing to melee or escaping if injured. The powerful berserk pulse psycast cancause an entire raid to turn on each other, leaving you to pick off any stragglers.

Blinding Pulse and Vertigo Pulse inflict powerful debuffs in small areas, making them easy pickings for melee and ranged fighters.

Theberserk psycast is best used onenemies carrying powerful melee weaponsor explosives. Melee enemies will be able to quickly injure or kill the people around them, while mind-controlling the rocket launcher guy willstop him from firing it at youand give you a free rocket launcher if they do not use it on their allies.

Support focused psycasters

High medical skills

Pacifists and other traits that limit their ability to fight.

Psionic powers can provide your pacifists and weaker fighters with new ways to help their colony in a fight. The smokepop psycast can create a cloud ofcover against snipers, or prevent turrets from locking on. At high levels skipshield can deflect all projectiles within an area and invisibility allows an ally to sneak up on groupsbefore striking with heavy weapons such as a rocket launcher.

Abilities such as skip can be cast on injured allies toferry them out of combat for emergency treatment. The ability to summon water canshut down enemies using incendiary weapons, saving your soldiers the need to extinguish them.

There is somehow no rule in the pacifist’s handbook againstteleporting an about-to-explode bomb into a group of raiders.

Non-combatant psycasters

High social skills

No other major duties around the colony.

The psycasts intended for non-combat use have a very high cost in focus. This means that a caster using them will often spendmost of their waking ours in meditation.

Word of inspiration can be a powerful psycast to use on crafters as itallows them to produce legendary level items.

Farskip offers a teleport able to cross the world map, letting your trade caravans ignore long periods of travel.

Many psycasts will scale to the sensitivity of the target and not the caster. A fighter with strong sensitivity is a good target for support spells while a raider with psychic deafness will resist all psycasts you use on them.

Complete Guide To Throne Rooms

A throne roomis a requirement for any noble above Yeoman rank(seven total honour). Higher nobility will demand greater throne rooms but at their minimum, it is a room with 24 floor tiles, a throne and two lit braziers.

You won’t want to build to this minimum, however, asit is cheaper and easier to build a larger throne room in preparation for higher ranks. This alsoallows for entertaining noble guests and holding high-quality ceremonies in for bonus honor.

Your nobleswon’t mind sharing a throne roombut must each have their own throne within it.

A good way of looking at titles is to divide theminto the higher and lower ranks. You can build a simple throne roomthat will see you through all the lower ranks, and then upgrade it in preparation for the higher ranks.

You can also safely have several lower rank nobles in your colony asit does not have a strong impact on their desired living standards.Your lower-rank throne room should have the following andwill be suitable up to the title of knight/dame:

A throne room will be classified as “undignified” if it contains a ritual altar, butyou are allowed to place a flat-screen TV in front of the throne.

Your higher-rank throne room will have the following upgrades andwill besuitable up to the maximum player title of count(ess):

An impressive throne room willincrease how quickly your nobles meditate, allowing them to use psycasts more often.

Clothing And Bedroom Requirements For Nobles

Beyond certain ranks your nobleswill also demand specific bedrooms and clothing. These requirements are easier to meet than the throne rooms but can stillrequire some planning ahead of accepting the title, and you can also wear clothing or use bedrooms above your current rank requirements.

As with the throne rooms, the bedroom and clothing requirements become steeper beyond Praetor rank: you may want todelay a rank-up ceremony here to make preparations for a count(ess) level room and outfit.you may still collect honour without increasing demands as long as youdo not accept the quest for the bestowing ceremony.

Most of Rimworld doesn’t discriminate against your colonists by gender, but theroyal titles do enforce the use of gendered clothing.Women will be unhappy if made to wear a top hat, for example.

The gendered versions of some clothing, such as the top hat and ladies hat have a minimal difference in temperature tolerance butoffer the same social boosts and cost the same amounts of crafting material.Mechlord suits, despite the name, are considered unisex apparel.
