Velen’s bandits inThe Witcher 3struggle with this problem, resorting to storing their treasures around the swamp.

The short quest Highwayman’s Cache consists solely of Geralt dealing with a gang of bandits and finding their hidden chest to appropriate for his own uses. The chest will contain two diagrams, which can be especially useful early in the game.
Where To Start Highwayman’s Cache
This unfortunate group of thieves is waitingby the bridge east of the Boatmarkers' Hut Fast Travel point,to thesouth of Crow’s Perch.
ConsidercompletingHighway Robberywhile traveling to the area, if you haven’t already. There isn’t much in the way of loot,but it’s a fun combat encounter on the wayto this quest.
The trio willstop Geraltand demand a toll from him. Unlike the bridge-based encounters fromDeadly Crossing, you cannot pay them, though you still havetwo ways to resolve the situation.
“Go ahead. attempt to take my coin.”
The criminals willtry to fight Geraltat the provocation, forcing you to kill them.
These banditsaren’t very difficult.Provoking them into a fight mayearn you more moneyby letting yousell their equipmentafter the fight.
“See this medallion?”
One of the thugs willrealize that Geralt is a witcherand urges his friends tolet Geralt pass.In this instance, they willleave without a fight.
Where To Find The Chest
Once you’ve removed the bandits from the bridge, you can findtheir stolen treasuresat the bridge. UseGeralt’s Witcher Sensesto investigate the campfire next to the bridge. It’ll highlight aset of footprints leading to a chestby the river bank.
The quest will end once youopen the chest.You are guaranteedtwo random crafting diagramsfrom the chest, alongside other loot.
