After making your way through the continent of Ash, you’ll eventually reach the location of the final Mothercrystal, Drake’s Spine.Final Fantasy 16’s story has led directly to this point, and with only one Mothercrystal left to destroy, you may almost taste the credits sequence.

That’s not to say this stage will just hand you the win though. Ahead of you are two very difficult boss fights, a veritable gauntlet of the game’s toughest enemies, and a huge exposition dump to boot. You’re in for the long haul, right? Well, without further ado, here’s the complete guide to Drake’s Spine.

The Battle On The Big Bridge

The first part of this stage is basically a gauntlet of battles as you try to reach Drake’s Spine itself.

There are a fewbasic enemiesto fight on the bridge. Deal with them, and then cross through the gate ahead. When you reach the large platform in front of you, you’ll begin yourfirst boss fightof the stage. Yes, already!

How To Beat The Behemoth

Thismeteor-flinging fiendproves to be a tough fight, but you should be able to fell it without too much trouble.

After defeating the Behemoth, you’ll be able tomake your way forwardagain. Onward!

Reaching Drake’s Spine

Run up the stairs ahead of you (picking up thePotionson the way) and begin the fight in the next area. It’s a very chill battle againstbasic soldiers, which is a nice diversion after the fight against the Behemoth.

Deal with the soldiers and move on down the stairs to the right. Open the chest next to the gate to obtainThe Will of Ice (Rime), and then head through the gate to fight someAkashic, includingWorgen and Vultures. There are two waves to fight.

Head through the gate, and you’ll be giventwo possible pathsto progress down.

The right path leads into the left path anyway, so it doesn’t really matter which you choose.

Eventually, you’ll reach a gate that leads to the docks and a fight againstOrcs and a Gunnvaldr.

Head forward through the linear paths ahead, defeating the enemies as you go. One of the fights will have youfighting an Undertaker, but you should be quite used to beating these up by now.

When you are making your way through the castle, be sure to check side rooms! There’s a chest in one that containsThe Will of Light (Satellite)on the way to a room with another chest that contains some gil and crafting materials.

If you’re aheavy user of magic, especially if you’re a fan of the auto-charge ability from theChanneler’s Whispers, you may want to strongly consider using The Will of Light (Satellite). Upgrading your damage output passively is a great way to improve your overall performance in combat.

This specific Coeurl doesn’t have the same tricks as Bygul, so you don’t have to worry about a super-tough fight.

After the Coeurl fight,descend the stairsfollowing the gates and then head down to the lower platform to the right to find a chest that contains2,400 gil. Then, return to the main path and press on toward your goal.

Eventually, you’ll reach a massive gate. Defeat the enemies here and then use the nearby lever. Enter the next section to begin an extended battle. First, you’ll be up againsttwo Tognvaldrs, then multiple waves of Akashic soldiers and Orcs,then an Akashic Orcish Warlord.

After defeating these enemies, watch the cutscenes that follow. When they end, you’ll have a chance to rest and recuperate.

The Interdimensional Rift

After the cutscenes, you’ll be in the Interdimensional Rift. This is aprolonged section of walking from cutscene to cutsceneas Ultima explains the history of the world to you. Just follow the path to progress.

Eventually, you’ll be out of cutscenes, and all that’s left is tofight Ultima himself.

As you’d expect, Ultima is a pretty tricky opponent to face.
