You might think that you’d deserve something akin to a ‘break’ inFinal Fantasy 16after managing to defeat Garuda and make some valuable progress in finding out more about the supposed second Dominant of Fire, but the game is simply not that kind to Clive.

Instead, soon after you wake up and get let out of the prisons at the Hideaway, you’re off on another adventure. This time, to find and secure Gav, Cid’s trusty scout and companion. To do this, the pair head to the Kingsfall, a normally-beautiful location filled with stunning waterfalls and gorgeous vistas. Of course, since you’re here, expect to face some resistance.
Making Your Way Through The Kingsfall
As you enter this stage, walk forwards along the linear path and drop down the cliff ahead of you. In the wide space ahead, you’ll fight someBlack Widows- after a few moments, more of the spiders will spawn behind you, surrounding you. This shouldn’t be a tough fight, however.
After completing the fight, cross the riverby hopping onto the stone in the middle. As you continue on, you’ll hear a roar, which signifies the first miniboss you’ll fight in this stage very shortly: theMinotaur.
How To Beat The Minotaur
Minotaurs are relatively easy enemies to fight - they have slow, easily recognized attacks, and it’s an easy matter to keep your distance, onlydashing in to attack during their long gaps between attacks.
Description
Headlong Rush
The Minotaur leans down and dashes at you, hoping to headbutt you.
Avoiding this attack can be tricky if you dodge too early; attempt to dodgeintothe attack to take advantage of invincibility frames, rather than relying on Clive’s short dodges to the side.
Club Swing
The Minotaur makes an attack with its giant club.
You can avoid this attack quite simply with a dodge, thanks to how obvious the startup is - just make sure you’re timing is careful and not too trigger-happy.
Big Swing
The Minotaur will swing his club around in a circle multiple times while moving towards you.
This move has decent tracking and deceptive speed and makes it very difficult to get any attacks in without getting hit. Dodge away from this attack rather than through it, as you’re likely to get caught by the next swing.
Thanks to its limited moveset, the Minotaur isn’t too tough an enemy. You will have to be wary of its attacks as theyhit hard, but it shouldn’t be hard to avoid them effectively. This fight is a good opportunity topractice using Rook’s Gambit as a dodge and counter moveif you have it learned.
Remember to useDeadly Embraceon the Minotaur once it gets stunned after depleting half of its Stagger gauge. This will perform a takedown that leaves it open to attacks for a while, a trick you should use whenever the opportunity arises.
Garuda’s attack abilities are particularly great for depleting an enemy’s Stagger gauge, especiallyWicked Wheel. Consider using these to push a strong foe into the second half of their Stagger gauge quickly.
Minotaurs dropMinotaur Manes, which are used in some crafting recipes. It’s worth attacking them when you see them to stockpile a few of these.
After killing the Minotaur, press onunderneath the logahead of you.
Finding Gav
Follow the pathuntil you come to the next pack of monsters, which includesBlack Widows and Hornets.
Now that you have Garuda’s abilities, you can deal with small flying monsters far easier - justuse Deadly Embrace, and you’ll bring them down to your level, letting you hit them (which also stuns them very quickly) easily.
Run along the thin ledge ahead and press on to faceanother Minotaur, this time backed up by a few Black Widows. Just use the strategy you used previously to come out on top.
Eventually, you’ll reach a bridge, upon which you’ll start a cutscene. After the cutscene, you’ll beattacked by a handful of soldiers, led by an Imperial Captain and backed up by an Imperial Astrologer. Take out the mage first, and then clean up the rest.
After clearing up the initial wave, you’ll watch a cutscene, after which you’ll be forced into a fight with a dragoon - theKnight of the Dying Sun-andaDragon Aevis. This isn’t as tough as it initially seems, however, as Cid will join you in the fight.
How To Beat The Knight Of The Dying Sun
Cid will say early on that he will take on the Dragon Aevis himself, and he is more than capable of doing so, so take on the Knight of the Dying Sun yourself. He’s a dragoon with just a few more tricks up his sleeve than the previous dragoon you fought in the prologue.
Specifically, once you’ve lowered his health enough, he will leap into the sky and useMirage Dive, which will manifest as continuous Jump attacks that do not stop until Cid intervenes with a cutscene. When the attack occurs, justavoid the constant attacks until the cutscene kicks in. Cid will strike the dragoon down, instantly staggering him.
Also watch out forDouble Jumpafter staggering the dragoon once. This attack will let the dragoon perform another Jump immediately after the first, and this time, the gap between the signal appearing on the ground and the attack’s resolution is far shorter.
