What follows is a hectic stage filled with combat, including a particularly tough engagement with Barnabas himself. While it’s one of the shorter stages in the game, like the two that came before it, it is no less challenging.

Kill The Waloeders

As in the previous stage, your first challenge here is todefeat a large pack of enemies. You’ll begin against some regular soldiers - as always, hunt down thespellcastersfirst, or they’ll cast Protect, prolonging the fight.

After eliminating the generic soldiers, you’ll be up against areaper-type enemy. You should be used to fighting these by now - just make sure youtake advantage of Katon’s long durationto get some very easy damage in.

Final Fantasy 16 - A door on the Einherjar

After defeating theTognvaldr, you’ll be able to explore the deck freely. There’s no treasure to be found, so just useTorgal’s Animal Instinctsto find the gate that leads to the next part of the stage.

Open the chest at the bottom of the stairs to get aMeteorite, and then climb up to the next level. You’ll be up against somemore soldiers when you reach the upper deck, two waves of them.

Final Fantasy 16 - Fighting Barnabas on the ocean floor

The second wave will include aSveithvaldr, so ensure you’re on the lookout for its brutal charging attack.

After beating the soldiers, head down to the next part of the stage. Here, open the chest next to the ladder down to the bottom of the ship to getThe Breath of Earth (Earthen Fury)and then drop down the hole.

Head through the door here anddefeat the soldierson the other side. Continue through thenext doorto rescue Jill and begin a sequence of cutscenes that ends with a boss battle.

How To Beat Barnabas

This fight is actually anunwinnable battle, so the key here is to avoid damage until the fight actually ends.

Barnabas and Clive will speak to each other constantly through this battle - listen to their conversation as the battle progresses.

The main trick that Barnabas will use to upset you isguarding a few of your attacks before counteringwith a very fast, unavoidable horizontal slash. If you notice Barnabas guarding your attacks, stop attacking immediately and move away.

Once Barnabas starts charging upIron Flash, you’ll know thatthe end of the battle is close. It is impossible to avoid this ability charging up all the way, and once Barnabas uses the attack, the battle will be over. Just relax and focus on staying alive to see the end of the fight.
