Amnesia: The Bunker is an atmospheric survival horror sequel and is the fourth game in theAmnesiaseries. The game portrays World War One time and plunges you into a sinister underground world to face the deep horrors and mysteries that lie within. Most of the main storyline takes place in an underground bunker that is infested with terrifying creatures, including bulky rats.

These relentless rodents can be a bit of trouble and cause frustration as they scuttle through the shadows and attempt to nibble you with their giant teeth. Although rats do comparatively less damage, they can chip out your health if you ignore them repetitively, especially when you’re already injured. Here’s how to deal with them.
8Use Your Flashlight
The rats are sneaky creatures that are used to the darkness of the bunker and sewers. If you cast a bright light right on them, they will disperse. This is one of the convenient methods to get rid of mice without killing them. You can get your first wind-up flashlight from the Administration Room. Althoughusing the torchseems like an effective method, it comes with a drawback as frequently winding the torch is a noisy process that could potentially draw out the Beast if used relentlessly.
Other than the wind-up flashlight, there is another option of crafting your own old-school torch using a stick, cloth, and a lighter. The crafted torch is silent and won’t alert the Beast, but it has a limited light supply and will drop out when the cloth is burnt completely. As the second option requires more resources, it is recommended to use it in necessary situations only.
7Shoot The Rats To Scare Them
What could be easier than firing some bullets right inside the gut of rats to kill them instantly? You get a revolver quite early in the game that also comes with a decent ammo supply. So, feel free to use some bullets if you have plenty in your inventory.

Make sure not to be too noisy as you could still attract the attention of the beast if not being careful. Using your gun against rats might not be the most sensible solution, but indeed is an effortless way to get rid of the mutated beasts without any hassle.
6Use Gas Grenades
As you progress through your journey in Amnesia: The Bunker, you will find many combat items including gas grenades. These are useful in creating a toxic smoke barrier and neutralizing the threat within the premises. The gas can also scatter the mutated mice from the spot. These grenades cast out gas and cover a large area, making it an efficient way to disperse a hoard of rats from an area. The grenades are also silent, meaning they will not attract the beast toward the location.
The only downside of using gas grenades is that you will need to have a Gas Mask on to pass through the smoke, or it will damage you as well. Also, gas grenades are a rare item to find, so make sure to keep them reserved and use them during appropriate times only. You can alsouse a frag grenadeon rats to permanently kill them, but it is not the wisest action to do so.
5Disperse Them With Flare
Flares are a useful item in the game as they are used to cast a temporary flame of light. The flares produce enough luminosity to disperse rats from the area. Just like the gas grenades, this item is also soundless.
To scare away the rats, light up the flare and throw it at the spot where they are gathered. Using a flare against rats is a temporary way to deal with them as the rodents will come crawling back to the spot once the flare runs out.
4Let Beast Take Care Of The Rats
Sometimes you can play mind games to get rid of the annoying creatures. The Beast is attracted to noise and will rampage in the area with much disturbance. If you’re careful and sharp enough, you can lure the beast by exploding a grenade or firing some bullets.
As the Beast dashes at the location, hide yourself and let the Beast kill all the rats. Although this way is much riskier, the beast will surely eliminate all the rats before leaving the area, making your path much easier.
3Use Meat For Distraction
In the bunker, you’re able to find meat pieces as collectible items. As the rats are attracted to the flesh, you can throw the meat near the rats to distract them out of the way.

As the rats are busy nibbling away on the piece of flesh, you can easily pass them without attracting their attention towards you. You can use the meat strategy if there are a large number of mice in your way.
2Avoid Rats Appearing
The rats are attracted to blood and dead flesh. These creatures mostly gather around rotten bodies and nibble them away. In order to prevent rats from gathering around a dead body, you may pour fuel on the corpse and burn it down. Although it will cost you fuel, it will save you from many hassles of these annoying rodents.
If Henri is injured, rats will also start getting attracted to your wounds, therefore attacking you more often. To avoid getting unwanted attention and disturbance from these irritating animals, make sure to heal yourself with time and use medkits and healing supplies when necessary.
1Take A Different Route
If you want to adopt a passive playstyle and avoid interactions with rats, then you can take a different path to surpass the location invaded by rats. For example, if you’re in quarters, you can take an alternate route by exploring the area such as a blocked passage, vent, or a hidden door.
Also, if you find alternate routes, you’ll have more ways to run and hide from the beast if it comes out of nowhere. This method does not work all the time as sometimes there is only one path to surpass the area. So, make sure to explore an area with attention but also be prepared for any potential dangers as well.
