This quest has some of the most difficult combat encounters in the game, with two challenging bosses and a host of combat encounters that bring Geralt’s story to a worthy end. If you need help with the challenges of this quest, this guide is for you.
Starting On Thin Ice
Immediately after completingBattle Preparations, you start this quest at a Nilfgaardian camp where a final discussion about the plan takes place. Even if you find some parts of it questionable,Geralt cannot change any part of it.
This is yourlast chance to ensure your potions are stocked and your weapons repaired. There is ablacksmith in the campto help you with the latter.
Do not loot any of the containers. They are property of the Nilfgaardian army and taking anything from themwill turn the nearby soldiers hostile.
When you are ready, tell Avallac’h that you are readyto bring the story to an end. This will start a cutscene that has Avallac’h use the Sunstone to summon the Wild Hunt, with the Nilfgaardians helping.
Amending The Plan
Things go wrong almost immediately, with the entire Nilfgaardian fleet being frozen with the Wild Hunt’s magic. Realizing that things have not gone to plan, Avallac’h allows Ciri to attempt to reverse their fortunes bydefeating Caranthir.Using her powers, she teleports right into the blizzard. You will need tofight your way to Caranthir.
Ciri has grown in power and willkill all opponents in a single hit. This makes the encounter a breeze.
Ciri will have toget through two large arenasbefore reaching the mage. Enemies willcontinually spawnthroughout the encounter. You canrun past them.
How To Defeat Caranthir
Ciri wastes no time in challenging Avallac’h’s former student. After a short cutscene, you will have to fight the Navigatoras Ciri.
Ciri’s mobility will be key in defeating Caranthir.Use her dodgeto maneuverbehind Caranthireach time he tries to swing his staff.Repeat this until he loses a third of his health.A cutscene will automatically begin whereCiri destroys his staff, stopping the blizzard in the process.
With the ice melted,Geralt enters the frayto finish what Ciri started. In this phase, you will have todeplete Caranthir’s remaining healthwhile avoiding his attacks.
Teleportation
Caranthir’s teleportation is much more annoying when you may’t do the same.Caranthir will teleport away from Geraltwhenever you get too close.
Ice Bolts
The Navigator willfire bolts of ice at Geraltas a primary attack. These bolts willdeal moderate damage and slow Geralton hit.
These bolts are eitherfired in a short burstorin a spread of five. They travel in a shallow arc, letting youroll under them.
Ice Elemental
To complicate things,Caranthir will summon ice elementalsthroughout the fight. These monstersfight like the other elementals, using slow melee attacks to damage Geralt.
While they are hardy, you caninflict significant damage to thembypositioning yourself such that Caranthir shoots them.He will be able to take out over half of their health, making them easy pickings.
You should beconstantly closing the distance with Caranthir, dealing as much damage as you canbefore he teleports away. The ice elementals willimpede your progressbut can be quickly dispatched bybaiting Caranthir into shooting thembefore finishing them off.
Unfortunately,Dimeritium Bombswill not stop Caranthir from using his magic.
Once you have depleted his health, a cutscene will begin. Caranthir, soundly beaten, tries totake Geralt with himby teleporting into the bottom of the ocean with the witcher in tow. You will have toswim to the surfacebefore drowning, though that should not be a challenge.
Running To The Naglfar
As he surfaces, Geraltsees Ciri nearly get capturedbefore she’s saved by a longshipcrashing into the Naglfar, where Eredin should be. You will need torun across the islands and iceto reach the ship for a final confrontation.
You willencounter familiar faces such as Hjalmaralong the way. They offer some dialogue, though none of it is particularly important.
You will findSkelligers fighting the Wild Huntalong the way. While you can help them fight the specters, this is optional, and you can make a beeline for Eredin instead.
You canreplenish your alchemy itemswithout spending any timeby meditating.
Once you arrive at the ship, you will seeEredin slaying Crach in a duelbefore challenging Geralt, starting your battle with him.
How To Defeat Eredin
As the Wild Hunt’s commander, Eredin is no slouch in combat. Combining both Imlerith’sunblockable melee combosand Caranthir’spropensity for teleportation,Eredin is able tosubject Geralt tohard-hitting melee attacks while teleporting away whenever you have an opportunity to retaliate.
His fight hastwo phases, with the initial phaselimited to melee attacks and teleportation. After landing several hits, he willdrag Geralt through a portal, starting thesecond phase.
Now on a cliff, Eredin willbegin using magic attacksin addition to his existing repertoire.
Vertical Slice
Afterteleporting away from Geralt,Eredin willslash his sword, creating blue waves that willfly towards Geralt, dealing damage if they hit. It starts witha single slice, with asecond wave of three slices, and afinal wave of five.
You shouldmove towards Eredin in an arc, avoiding a direct approach, to evade this attack. The waves will bepacked more tightlythe closer they are to him, making it easier to avoid them as you close in.
Meteor Strike
He cansummon a meteorduring the fight. This attack ismarked by a blue circle on the ground.Simply get away from the circle as fast as possible to avoid the attack.
Lightning Balls
Eredin maypunch the groundafter teleporting away.Balls of lightningwill begin forming at Geralt’s location when he does this.
The best way to avoid this would be torush Eredin as quickly as possible.Moving quickly willprevent the balls from damaging Geralt.
Once you are within striking distance, you canget a few hits inbefore he teleports away. You can maximize this window byusing Whirl or Rend, dealing significantly more damage than using normal attacks.
Eredin isprotected by a shell of ice, reducing the damage he takes when it is on. You canuse Igni to melt the shell, staggering Eredin and letting you hit harderbefore he teleports again.
When you have him near death, Eredin willopen another portal.Follow him through andfinish him offfor a cutscene to play, where Geralt ends the elf.
With his dying breath, Eredin tells Geralt that Avallac’h had betrayed both of them as Hounds of the Wild Hunt close in. At the last minute, Yenneferteleports Geralt out of the area, ending the quest and startingTedd Deireadh, The Final Age.
