InDiablo 4, you have a high degree of freedom in how you build your character. There are tons of different builds to try out, each with its own Legendary Aspects and rare pieces of equipment to grind for. As you settle into a build, you’ll want to start investing more heavily into each individual piece, whether that’s through adding sockets or Masterworking them to get better stats.

Scattered Prisms are used to add sockets to your gear, allowing you to slot in Gems with a variety of useful effects. However, this material is pretty rare, and can only be obtained in a few ways. Below, we’ll take a look at two of the best ways to gather up Scattered Prisms, and some tips for doing so.

A look at the Avarice World Boss in Diablo 4

Updated June 16, 2025: In a recent patch, the drop rates for Scattered Prisms were increased, so we’ve updated this guide with everything you need to know, including the exact drop rates from all available sources.

How To Get Scattered Prisms

There are two main methods for gathering Scattered Prisms, but you can find them from a few different sources, although at a lower drop rate.Treasure Goblins,World Bosses, Elite enemies, and Dungeons all have a chance to drop Scattered Prisms, with the first two sources being the most efficient options.

Treasure Goblins

The primary way to get Scattered Prisms is through Treasure Goblins. These creatures are found randomly in the open world, although at a verylow chance. When one spots you, it will attempt to run away, eventuallyopening a portal to escape.

However, if you cankill the Treasure Goblin before it escapes, you can help yourself to its range of rare loot, includingScattered Prisms. If you see a Treasure Goblin, do everything you can to kill it as quickly as possible.

World Bosses

World Bosses willalways drop Scattered Prisms when defeated; the amount depends on yourWorld Tier. Currently, there arethree World Bossesthat periodically spawn around the map, Ashava, Wandering Death, and Avarice. These bosses are designed for a group of players to take them on together, butthey can be soloed.

World Bosses spawn on a set schedule, so you won’t be able to farm them back to back. However, this is thebest way to consistently get Scattered Prismsdue to thefixed drop rate, so you should definitely set aside the time to fight them when they’re up.

The Butcher

Finally, the Butcher will always drop one Scattered Prismwhen defeated. This boss spawns randomly inDungeons or Cellarsand is extremely difficult to kill. The Butcher often has way more health than the boss of the current Dungeon, making him a difficult roadblock.

However, if you are able to best the Butcher, you’llalways be rewarded with one Scattered Prism. This isn’t a great way to farm this item due to the Butcher’s random spawn rate, but it’s a nice bonus when you do find him.

How To Use Scattered Prisms

As mentioned above, Scattered Prisms are used to add sockets to your gear. This is done at the Jeweler in most towns, and it takesone Scattered Prismto addone socketto an item.

Weapons and Armor can have amaximum of two socketseach, whileAmulets and Rings can only have one.

This is a great way to “fix” an item with great stats that didn’t roll a socket, allowing you to fit some extra stats onto your gear using gems.
