The Actor’s Story inLayers Of Fear (2023)is much more straightforward with its collectibles than the Painter’s Story. There are a handful of hidden items throughout the tale, however, that are especially well hidden. Given their alien appearance and the strange sounds emanating from them when you pick them up, they might be hidden for a reason!

Finding the five Strange Objects and unraveling their secrets reveals some of the game’s creepiest content, but raises more questions than answers. With this guide, you’ll be able to find all of them hidden in the recesses of the Actor’s memories.
Strange Box
In Chapter Two, after you escape from the Formless Monster by crawling through a vent,move the mannequin to the left when you emerge.It will hit a switch, opening a door behind you. Inside,press the buttonto shut off the electricity.Run down the corridor, crouching underneath the wheel halfway across, to get past the barrier before the power comes back on. There, you’ll be able to collect theStrange Box.
Be sure to do this before entering the room with the projector!
Strange Note
This is themost important of the Strange Objects, as you can’t unlock the secrets of the others without it. After leaving the main engine room in Chapter Two, you’ll find yourself crawling through a vent thatsplits into two paths.Take the left-hand path. When you emerge,pick up the note from the bed.You can open the locked door from this side, which will put you back on the main path without having to go back into the vents.
Strange Cube
In the first area of the hedge maze in Chapter Three, follow the path to the end before crawling through the tunnel to the next section. You’ll see a multi-armed statue; to the right of it is alarge tree trunk with holes cut into it.
Interacting with a hole willopen or close the holesdirectly above, below, to the left, and to the right of it (but NOT the chosen hole itself). Whenall sixteen holes are open, revealing the flame behind them, the Strange Cube will appear on the bench behind you.

Strange Tree
After choosing to chase the Flame or be swept away in the Flood in Chapter Four, you’ll come to a room with the Rat Queen’s portrait. On the right is a locked trunk. Animate the mannequins next to it, thenlook at the cards on the table.The numbers on the cards form the combination to the lock, and are different with every playthrough. Open the chest to get the Strange Tree.
Strange Eyes
When you reach the Rat Queen’s shrine near the end of Chapter Four,open the box behind the altar.Before leaving,look through the tiny keyholethat appears at the base of the altar; you’ll be transported to a secret room.Align the rat-shaped spotlightsso that they all illuminate the central statue; one requires that youopen curtainsto let the light through. When all three lights are aligned you’ll receive theStrange Eyes.
How To Decode The Strange Objects
When you return to your cabin with the Strange Objects, they’ll be placed on the shelves at the top of the stairs. They can be interacted with, causing you to hear astatic buzzwhile the Actor holds them. The Strange Note includes a hint about how to decode them.
On the right side of the Strange Note, you’ll see a drawing of a porthole with42Sdrawn over it. Go to the telescope to the right of the collection andlook through it for forty-two seconds.A shell will float to the surface of the water; zoom in on it for a few seconds to collect it.
Once you’ve gotten it, you’ll find the shellon the floor in front of the Strange Note.Picking it up and placing it in front of one of the objects will cause it tostick to the pedestal. You can freely move the shell from pedestal to pedestal, so don’t worry about choosing a specific object. While the shell is attached to an object’s pedestal, you’ll be able tohear a secret messagewhile holding that object!
