TheMaster Swordis one of the most iconic weapons in gaming, and for good reason - it has been Link’s primary weapon of choice for decades at this point. Even in a game likeThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which emphasizes how temporary weapons are, the Master Sword remains a constant companion.

That said, you’ll have to acquire the Master Sword before it can resume its role as your main weapon. When you begin the game, you’ll only have a ruined version, but a complete version exists out there. Here’s how to get it.

How To Get The Master Sword
There are two ways to learn where the Master Sword is:
It is recommended that you at least complete the second point on this list, as this will begin the quest Recovering the Hero’s Sword. This gives you a handy quest marker that points directly at the Master Sword’s location, no matter where it is in the world.
Before you actually try to find the Master Sword, be aware thatyou will need to increase your Stamina significantly before attempting to get it. Just like in Breath of the Wild, you’ll need a certain amount before you can wield it - in this game, you’ll needfive extra segments of Stamina. This will look like acomplete extra ringaround the first ring.
From the two clues above, you’ll learn that the Master Sword is buried in the head of the Light Dragon, who flies around Hyrule in a set pattern. It winds around the outside of Hyrule in a loop.
If you don’t have the quest marker provided by Recovering the Hero’s Sword, a good tip is toactivate all the outer Skyview Towersand then fast-travel to them in a circuit until you see the dragon in the sky.
To get on top of the Light Dragon, wait until it’snear a Skyview Towerand launch yourself into the sky. It should be easy toglide down to the dragon, especially with how much Stamina you’ll have. HavingTulin’s Gust abilitywill help greatly with distance if you need it.
Once on the Light Dragon’s back, walk all the way to its head, and you’ll find theMaster Sword. Interact with it, and you’ll enter a cutscene.Hold down the A button, and you’ll slowly drain Stamina. If you have enough, you’ll be rewarded with the Master Sword. If you do not have enough, you’ll have to go get more Stamina and try again.
If you need more Stamina in a pinch, considerusing theCursed Statuebeneath Lookout Landingto temporarily swap Heart Containers for Stamina.
The Master Sword acts as it does in the first game. It can break, but will automatically add itself to your weapon inventory again after a period of time. In addition, trying to throw the sword will unleash a damaging blade of light - but only at full health.
