As you progress intoDiablo 4’s endgame content, you’ll be constantly upgrading your gear as better pieces drop. Your weapon provides a large portion of your overall damage, so using the best one available is imperative. However, when you get a new weapon, you’ll also want to transfer your Legendary Aspects onto it, which can get expensive at higher levels.

Applying Legendary Aspects to high level weapons requires you to use rare items called Baleful Fragments. These always seem to be in short supply, but using the methods below, you’ll soon have more Baleful Fragments than you’ll know what to do with.
How To Get Baleful Fragments
Baleful Fragments are a material item that can beacquired by salvaging Legendary weaponsof item power 400 and above. Only Legendary Weapons drop Baleful Fragments when salvaged; youwon’t get this material from salvaging armor or jewelry.
So, if you need tons of Baleful Fragments, there are a few methods you can use. You can find Legendary items in most content in the game, but the following methods will save you some time if you’re looking specifically for Legendary weapons.
Helltide
TheHelltide world eventis one of thebest ways to find Legendary items. These events occur in World Tier 3 and above, butaren’t always active. When they do start, you’ll haveone hourto participate. During a Helltide, killing enemies in the area will make the dropAberrant Cinders, which you can thenspend to open Tortured Giftsfound throughout the map.
Tortured Gifts can hold specific items inside, indicated by their name. For example, a Tortured Gift of Weaponry has weapons in it, with ahigh chance of receiving a Legendary weapon. This is one of the best ways to get specific types of gear, making farming for Baleful Fragments much easier.
Tree of Whispers
TheTree of Whispersoffers a similar system that allows you tochoose a reward of a specific type of gear, but takes a bit more time to get the reward. By completing indicated tasks around the world, you will earnGrim Favors. Once you have ten Grim Favors, you can return to the Tree of Whispers to select one of three caches that each hold a different type of gear.
It’s not guaranteed that one of the selectable rewards will have weapons, but you’re able to easilyearn Grim Favors by doing other contentlike Helltide, World Events, or certain dungeons, making this a good on-the-side method for farming Baleful Fragments.
Murmuring Obols Merchant
Murmuring Obolsare a special currency that are earned mainly from random World Events. Upon completing these short activities, you’ll earn a varying number of Murmuring Obols.
After you’ve collected some Obols, you’re able to return to any major town andspend them at the Curiosity Vendor. If you’re just looking for Baleful Fragments,choose any of the weapon options. It’s not guaranteed you’ll get a Legendary weapon by doing this, but the chances are pretty good, and you canearn Obols while completing other contentlike Helltides or Tree of Whispers.
The upside of farming Murmuring Obols for Legendaries is that when a Legendary does drop, it willalways be of the type that you are purchasing. For example, you’ll always get a Legendary weapon if you only purchase mystery weapons from the vendor. This makes Murmuring Obols a pretty good side method for farming Baleful Fragments.
Other Methods
Of course,Legendary weapons can drop from almost everything you do in the game, so it’s only a matter of time before you get one or two. Exploring Sanctuary, completing events, dungeons, side quests, or doing anything else in the game are perfectly reasonable methods for farming Baleful Fragments.
