InThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,Gloom is spilling out from underground onto the surface of Hyrule. Enormous chasms have opened up which lead to a deadly underground realm known only as ‘the Depths.’

The Gloom spilling out is a result of the reawakening of Ganondorf, Link and Zelda’s eternal enemy. If you want a chance at taking him down, it couldn’t hurt to understand the newGloom Resistancebuff and, most importantly, how you can get it.

Updated on Jun 29, 2025 by Gabrielle Castania:About a year on from the launch of Tears of the Kingdom, we’re circling back and refreshing some of our more popular content from the game to ensure it’s as accurate and up-to-date as possible. This Tears of the Kingdom Dark Clump recipe guide is accurate as of time of publish.

How To Get Dark Clumps

Dark Clumpare unique because they can’t be found in the world naturally. You can only get Dark Clumps by trading Poeswith the Bargainer Statues. There aresix of these statues in totalaround The Depths.

One Dark Clump costs 10 Poes when traded, but the Statues offer a full menu of other items for sale as well.

Link has his Hearts drained by the Gloom in The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.

Theeasiest Bargainer Statue to find is in Lookout Landing, separate from the other six and up on the surface, away from the dangers of the Depths. You’ll probably notice it while interacting with Purah and her team at the beginning of the game. Each Statue will sell the same itemsafter being unlocked, adding to their stock as you find their brothers.

How Does Gloom Resistance Work?

Gloomis the eerie reddish goo on the ground all over the Depths (and occasionally smeared on the surface, too). You’ll figure out before long thatstanding in Gloomhurts you in a unique way - yourhearts flickeras you stand in or run through Gloom, and if you’re in it too long, yourheart container grays out and breaks.

When this happens, that heart container cannot be refilled until you unbreak the Gloom. This can be done by:

Phantom Ganon Aprroaching Link in Tears of the Kingdom.

There aretwo ways to acquireGloom Resistance:by wearing theArmor of the Depths(in which case the Resistance is active so long as you wear the armor) or by eatingfood made with Dark Clumps(in which case the Resistance is temporary).

If you do both, the Resistance stacks up to three extra Hearts, which can be critical to end-game fights.

Why Do You Need Gloom Resistance Meals?

Although there are already plenty of patches of Gloom just out and about in The Depths, you’ll often come acrossenemies covered in Gloom. Not only do these enemies damage you like their normal surface counterparts, but theybreak your heartswhen they strike.

Because of this, mixed with the innate danger of all the Gloom down in the Depths, you’d do well tokeep Gloom Resistance meals on you to prevent your hearts from breakingdue to Gloom damage.

Additionally, one of the major mini-bosses you’ll face several times is theGloom Handsand, subsequently,Phantom Ganon, who pose a pretty severe threat if you don’t have a way to heal Gloom damage. They can spawnin the Depths and on the Surface. If you’re swarmed by Gloom Hands, feel secure in better that Phantom Ganon is likely on the way, and you’ll need all the Gloom resistance you can get from someone powerful enough to one-shot you if you’re under-prepared.

The best way to make Gloom Resistance meals is tostick torecipes you already know, which allow you to customize your ingredients. Most recipes have a staple version (for example, Rice Balls) that can be customized with additional ingredients (Meaty Rice Balls,Veggie Rice Balls, etc.).

If you can substitute an ingredient and end up with a variant of the same dish, you can likely use this meal for Gloom Resistance.

The more Dark Clumps you add to a recipe, the more Gloom Resistance you’ll have. Keep in mind, though, that certain recipes will pull more weight (and give you more Gloom Resistance) with a single Dark Clump than another recipe will give you with two.
