However, the game doesn’t clarify what you must do to overcome the Leviathan. If you struggle to get past this part, or know what to do but need additional advice, here’s everything you need to know about securing the Enterprise.
Preparation
You’ll want toprepare before you leave Viking’s Cove. You should start bychanging your characters to magic casting jobs. You must cast Mini on your party to get through this section, so your physical attacks will deal single-digit damage, making them worthless.
Even though other versions of Final Fantasy 3 penalize you for switching jobs until you complete a certain number of fights, this version doesn’t, so you’re able to change as needed.
You should go withtwo Red Mages, one White Mage, and one Black Mage. The Red Mages can work as your tanks while wearing most of the equipment you may have from their previous jobs. They also have higher defensive stats, making them ideal for a boss fight. The White Mage will primarily heal your team, though they can deal some damage with Aero, and your Black Mage will deal most of the damage.
Aim for level ten or 11at this point, so your Black Mage can access more powerful spells, like Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara. You should give your White Mage all the white magic available, and purchase some spells for your Red Mages.
Your Red Mages won’t need Poison, Blind, or Sleep, so go with Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Cure, and Mini. That way, you can swap your Red Mages between dealing damage and healing.
While buying magic, you should get20 potions and ten status ailments itemsto keep yourself healthy through the upcoming part.
Since you’ll cast Mini on your party, you shouldput every member in the back row. You can do this by accessing the Menu, choosing Formation, and selecting a character twice to move them to the back half. Doing so will cause them to deal less damage with physical attacks but take less damage. However,it won’t impact their magic.
Change your jobs before continuing. When you change to a magic job,you lose all your current spell slots, so you’ll want to rest at the inn to have all your magic ready for the upcoming section.

Calming The Leviathan
Your initial instinct will be to hop into the Enterprise and take on the Leviathan to save the people. However, theLeviathan has incredibly high statsand will defeat most of your characters in a single attack, leading to a game over. While you could theoretically defeat the Leviathan if you level up enough, doing so would take so much time that it wouldn’t be worth the effort.
Instead, you need tocomplete a nearby dungeon to calm the Leviathanand have it stop attacking people. When you leave Viking’s Cove through the north exit, you musttravel north on the land and then go into the building to the west. Once you enter, you’ll find yourself inNepto Temple, with a Leviathan statue in front of you.
If you approach the statue, you can examine it to see it’s missing a jewel, though you could enter its eye if you were smaller. You mustcast Mini on your party to shrink down, enter the statue, and travel through the dungeon to regain the jewel.
When you select Mini and cast it on your party, press right on the group. Doing so willhighlight your party with flashing arrows, indicating you may cast the spell on everyone immediately, saving you some magic. You should alsocast the spell with a Red Mageto save the White Mage’s magic slots.

Reaching The Giant Rat
The dungeon has a straightforward layout, so if you want to go straight to the boss, you shouldgo into the right entrances every time you see them.
If you’re playing on consoles, you can turn off random encounters in the options menu.
The dungeon does have random encounters, butdon’t bother fighting them. Since you’re able to only deal decent damage to them with magic, you’ll want to save it for the fight. Instead, you shouldrun away from each battleto reduce the risk of taking damage while you travel. After you navigate to the third floor, you’ll find the Giant Rat.
You canfind Shell Armor if you go down the left paths, which you can use on your tanky characters to help you survive against the Giant Rat.
Before approaching the Giant Rat, you shouldopen your menu and create a quick save, so you won’t have to go through the dungeon again to attempt the fight. Also, if you lost health during the trek, you should heal with some potionssince you’ll want to save the magic for the boss fight.
Defeating The Giant Rat
The Giant Rat can damage your team severely, so ensure you have everyone in the back row. You shouldstart the first turn by having your Red Mages and Black Mages cast their most powerful spells. As for the White Mage, you can have them defend or cast Aero if you have enough magic.
The Giant Rat casts spells during this fight, soyour characters can take between 40 and 100 damage, so attempt to keep your party members above 100 HP. After the first turn, have your White Mage heal whoever got damaged, have the person who took damage defend, and have everyone else cast spells.
If your White Mage took damage, have them block while having others use items or a Cure spell to help the White Mage.
The Giant Rat has tons of health, so winning this fight will take multiple turns. You should also avoid using Phoenix Downs during this fight since you’ll want to save them for a more challenging boss later.
Feel free to reset the battle and continue from your quick save point if anyone gets knocked out. You shouldn’t be afraid to play it safe during this fight by having multiple characters heal and defend, depending on how much health everyone has left.
Try to save a level two spell slot during this fight, so you can cast Mini on your party after you leave the dungeon.
Returning The Gem And Gaining The Enterprise
Once you defeat the boss, you’ll get the gem, so backtrack through the dungeon, butremember to heal your party before you leave, so you don’t get a game over from the random encounters. After you leave, you should immediately cast Mini on your party again, so you’ll return to average size.
you’re able to also change your party to your preferred jobs during this time. However, if any of them cast magic, you won’t have any spell slots.
Before you leave the Nepto Temple, you should interact with the Leviathan head again. It’ll prompt you to give it an item, so offer the gem, and it’ll explain that the Leviathan has been calmed down. At this point, you may return to Viking’s Cove to see what they say, and take the Enterprise to continue your journey.
