While it is possible to find great weapons out in the field inFinal Fantasy 16, the best ones are invariably the ones you can craft yourself. While the majority of sword recipes unlock via completion of the main quest, some are unlocked through special side quests - the recipe for Excalibur is one such recipe.

Not only will you need to complete some steps to unlock the recipe for Excalibur, but this brilliant sword will also require some pretty top-notch ingredients to craft. These are acquired from difficult hunt quests, so you’ll really have to earn your reward.
How To Unlock The Excalibur Recipe
To unlock the actual recipe to craft this sword, you’ll need to complete the side questBlacksmith’s Blues II. You can do this after completing Letting Off Steam III, a story quest, and then talking to Mid. Once you’ve completed these steps, as long as you have also completed the first Blacksmith’s Blues quest, you’ll be able to acquire the new quest via theReading Tablein Clive’s quarters.
The quest is rather easy - just follow the steps, completing the simple combat as you go. Upon completion, you’ll obtain theExcalibur Design Draft, which is what you need to unlock the recipe at the blacksmith’s forge.
That’s not all you need, though - you’ll also need some specific ingredients:
Acquisition Method
Wyrrite
This is a very common ingredient found throughout the game by defeating enemies and opening treasure chests. Also, it can be purchased from Charon.
Scarletite
Scarletite is a reward for multiple quests and hunts during the game. As long as you are completing quests and hunts as they appear, you should have enough Scarletite to fund every crafting goal you have.
Bomb Ember
This is a reward forcompleting the Bomb King hunt.
After accruing all the materials above, you can go ahead and craft the Excalibur by talking to Blackthorne at the Hideaway.
