Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk is a Witcher Contract that sets Geralt on the tail of a monster that seems to target drunk individuals. It’s not much to go on, but finding out more about the creature is what they pay Geralt for and what this guide helps with.
Where To Start Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk
The notice for this contract is, as you might expect, onOxenfurt’s notice board. It’s titled “Contract: Monster in Oxenfurt”. Picking up the notice and reading it will start the quest, directing you toNikolas Friedman,a guard by the docks.
While he doesn’t seem particularly interested in the case, he will give Geralt two leads;a medic with the victim’s bodies, and asurvivor getting drunk at the pub.
This questmay incur expenses not covered by your employer. At a minimum, it’lllighten your coin pouch by 50 crownsand at maximum,80 crowns. You may want tonegotiate aggressivelyto offset this cost.
You can tackle both leads in either order, though you’ll need to pursue them regardless.
Questioning The Drunk
The monster’s only surviving witness is busygetting sloshed at The Alchemy,Oxenfurt’s watering hole of choice. You’ll find her standing by the bar where you canask for her testimony. She won’t part with it for free, asking Geralt for a drink first.
Pay For The Drink
The witness' drinkcosts 30 crownsbut will be sufficient in loosening her lips.
Use Axii
If you haveDelusion at level two,you canconvince her to tell you for free.
While her actual testimony isn’t detailed, it does guide you toan archway opposite The Alchemywhere you can find adiscarded bracelet.
Inspecting The Bodies
The medic responsible forthe victims' bodiesis at a shack on the river bank. Geralt will have to cut through his apathetic demeanor to find that thebodies are still intact, in the house behind the medic.
There isn’t much to do here. Justinspect both bodiesfor Geralt to suspect that the monster isa vampire of some sort.
Luring The Monster Out
With the clues gathered, Geralt deduces that the monster is akatakan,a type of vampire that has a fondness for jewelry. This particular katakan prefers blood fromdrunk people.
This is enough for Geralt to hatch a plan. You’ll have toreturn to The Alchemywhere you will have topay 50 crowns to buy enough booze to get drunk.
You canfail this section if your toxicity is too high.Make sure tomeditate or drink a White Honey potionto avoid this.
After being properly marinated, Geralt willtake to the streets and belt out bawdy songsto encourage the katakan to attack him. You’ll have tofollow a trail around The Alchemy, with many residents telling Geralt to shut up.
Eventually, the katakan will take notice andtry to feast on Geralt. It will leap into the open andstart fighting, giving you a chance to defend yourself.
Don’t chug all your potions as soon as it appears. This isn’t the main battle.
Once the katakan has taken enough damage, it’llrun from Geralt. You’ll need to chase it down to finish it off.Use Geralt’s Witcher Sensesto pick up its noises at anabandoned house on Oxenfurt’s outskirts.
When you arrive, circle the house and look fora ladder leading into the attic. When you are ready, jump inside to start the fight.
How To Kill Gael The Katakan
Katakans are some of themost dangerous vampires you will encounterin the game. While their speed and strength are not to be underestimated, theirability to turn invisibleis their deadliest trait. When in this state, they aredifficult to target and hit, putting you on the defensive.
Thetried-and-tested methodsfor removing invisibility work as well on katakans as they do on anything else. You canrely on Yrden to force it back into the visible spectrumwhile slowing it down.
If stamina is a problem, or you are better at casting explosions than signs, you can make use ofMoon Dust, Dancing Star, and Dragon’s Dream bombsto strip it of its invisibility.
If you arestruggling to avoid its swipes, try drinking aBlack Blood potion. This concoction willdamage the katakan if it hits you.At higher levels, it will evenstagger the monster and inflict damage over timeif it is too close to Geralt.
The small house can work to your advantage by making itdifficult for the katakan to avoid any area-of-effect attacksyou may be employing.
Once you’ve killed it,loot it for a trophybefore returning to Friedman where you will collect your reward and end the contract.
