Halls of Torment also features seven different classes, allowing for further customization options for you. At the beginning of the game, only one class is unlocked. To unlock the other seven classes, you’ll have to complete several side quests. Here we’ll provide tips and explain exactly how each class is unlocked.
The Swordsman
The Swordsman is theonly available class upon startup. The Swordsman’s stats are pretty well-rounded and make the class a reliable pick for any run. The sword’s attack range is fairly short, but the cone shape of the attack allows for multiple enemies to be struck at once.
The Archer
Surviving in the Haunted Cavernsuntil there are 26 minutes left on the timer will unlock the Archer. This means surviving just four minutes in the Haunted Caverns, which is fairly easy and something most first-time players accomplish unintentionally.
The Archer’s long-distance combat and high chance for critical attacks make it easy to wipe out hordes of enemies. However, the Archer’s low defense stat means there is little room for error.
The Exterminator
Killing 1,000 enemiesin the Ember Groundsin one gowill unlock theExterminator. This task is easier to accomplish afterpurchasing a few blessings from the Shrine of Blessings.
The Shrine of Blessings is unlockedafter completing your first runand allows you to purchase permanent upgrades for all classes.
The Exterminator uses a flamethrower to execute fast attacks that can hit many enemies at once. These fire-based attacks also have a chance to burn enemies, causing further damage over time.
The Exterminator also makes up for lower attack and defense stats with high movement speed.
The Cleric
Defeating the Lichin the Haunted Caverns willunlock the Cleric. The Lich is an elite enemy that will appearwhen there are around ten minutes lefton the timer. The Lich summons skeletons and constantly casts spells to overwhelm you.
You should focus on taking downthe Lich’s skeletons since they’re weak and are often used to corner you.
You also should have purchased multiple blessings at this point to be prepared for the fight.
The Lich must be defeated before the timer reaches zero, otherwise, it’ll despawn.
The Cleric is a slow-attacking character with a wide range of attack. The Cleric’s damage is distributed among all enemies caught within the attack range, meaning a lower damage output the more enemies you attack at once.
The Cleric can be extremely powerful when combined with traits that boost attack speed.
The Warlock
Defeating the Wyrm Queenin the Ember Grounds will unlock the Warlock. The Wyrm Queen is an elite enemy that willspawn when there are around six minutes lefton the timer.
The Wyrm Queen can burrow underground and quickly circle around you. Just like with the Lich, this enemy must be defeated before the timer reaches zero.
The fight isn’t very difficult; the only challenging part of the fight is any time the Wyrm Queen mayburrow underground and avoid damage.
The Warlock summons ghosts to seek out and attack enemies. These ghosts stay active for a while and continue seeking out enemies until they despawn.
The Warlock’s attack is veryuseful for crowd controlsince ghosts stay active for a while before despawning. It’s best to avoid close fights since the ghosts take a long time to circle around and continue attacking.
The Shieldmaiden
Defeating the Wraith Horsemanin the Forgotten Viaduct will unlock theShieldmaiden. The Wraith Horseman is an elite enemy thatspawns when there are around 24 minutes lefton the timer.
During any run in the Forgotten Viaduct, multiple Wraith Horseman will spawn, giving you multiple chances to complete this quest.
This enemy will run around in circles, launching attacks at you each time it passes by. The Wraith Horseman canrain down arrows, summon guards, and launch ghastly spear attacks.
The arrows can be avoided by staying out of the green circles that appear. The guards will always attack in the direction they’re facing, so aim to avoid their line of sight.
The spear attacks have a light green spear shown on the floor right before the attack launches, showing you exactly how to evade.
The Shieldmaiden uses an ax and shield to keep enemies at bay. The ax is a short-distance attack that has a circular attack range, and the shield has a wide cone range of attack.
The shield excels at pushing enemies away, allowing you to wail on them with the ax in the meantime. While the Shieldmaiden is slow and not particularly strong, their high defense and HP allow you to survive in extreme circumstances.
The Sorceress
Killing 10,000 enemiesin the Forgotten Viaductwill unlock theSorceress. The Forgotten Viaduct is full of powerful enemies, making the Sorceressextremely difficult to unlock.
To prepare for this task, you shouldpurchase a majority of blessings from the Shrine of Blessings. You should alsocollect and buy armor from the Wellkeeper.
Unlocking the Wellkeeper can be done by visiting the Ember Grounds and freeing him from his cell. Using a well in future runs will allow you to obtain armor and use it for future runs, rather than just dropping the armor upon death.
After getting the armor best suited for your character and buying almost every blessing, you’re ready to take on the Forgotten Viaduct.
Level up early to ensure you can handle the elite enemies and start wiping out enemies faster.Go for Scroll’s of Mastery early onbefore waves of enemies prevent you from getting close to it.
After wiping out 10,000 enemies, the all-powerful Sorceress is yours. The Sorceress casts powerful lightning magic at a distance.
Leveling up the Sorceresses with traits that increase attack speed turns the Sorceress into a merciless class capable of wiping out enemies in seconds.
