There are dozens of options for armor sets inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but you don’t have to settle for wearing your new armor as-is for very long. Through the power of the Great Fairies, you’re able to pay an amount of Rupees and resources in order to upgrade armor in Tears of the Kingdom.

How To Upgrade Armor
In Tears of the Kingdom, armor upgrades work much like they did in Breath of the Wild, with theGreat Fairieswilling to upgrade your armor sets - for a progressively larger fee and more complicated items for each level of defense.
There arefour total stagesof armor upgrades, and each stageboosts the armor’s defenseby a certain amount. Naturally, thehigher the numberlisted below the item, thebetter the defense.
There are alsofour Great Fairiesin Tears of the Kingdom, andfor each one you awakenfrom her slumber, all unlocked Great Fairies canenhance your armor by one additional level.
For instance, if you’ve unlockedtwo Fairiesso far, both of them will then be able toenhance your armor by two levelstotal. You’ll needall four Fairiesto max out your armor sets.
Each time, you’llpay in Rupeesas well as materials, and thecost stays the sameno matter what else the Fairies may request,no matter which Fairy you visit.

This cost applies to each piece individually, meaning that upgrading your armor in Tears of the Kingdom becomes pretty expensive, pretty quickly.
Depending on how far you are andhow much money you’ve got, you may find it more effective tofocus on your main armor sets firstto maximize your armor upgrades.
In addition to the Rupees, each piece of armor requires ahandful of different foods, gems, or monster partsin order to upgrade. These items are vastlydifferent across the armor setsin Tears of the Kingdom, but it’s relatively simple to follow, with naturalelements, bonuses, and more taken into consideration.
If an item is aningredient in a food or elixirthat offers thesame benefitas the armor, it’s likely to show up as anupgrade requirement.
When youhave everything you needfor an armor upgrade in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll see theicon of it in your inventory normallywhenspeaking to the Great Fairies.
Armor for which you’remissing somethingwill be quitefadedand transparent. You canhover over the armorto see a full list of what’s required to upgrade it, as well as what you have and don’t have toward the upgrade.
How To Unlock All Great Fairies
Unlocking all the Great Fairies in Tears of the Kingdom is no small feat - it has to do with theStable Trotters, the band playing atthe Stables around Hyrule, andgetting the band back togetherto impress and awaken the Great Fairies.

Finally, these pieces of armor are not part of full armor sets, but they’re still eligible for upgrades from the Great Fairies.
