Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemedgives you a device known as the X-Reader, which lets you know important information and details. You can use your X-Reader to find various items, learn about enemies, and even detect treasure. However, if you want those functions, you must upgrade it first.

Even though it’s not required, having all the upgrades can make a difference and help you complete quests. That way, you’ll see lights along your mini-map to guide you and have the border flash once you get close enough to the goodies.

You can get Ether Cylinders, which are needed to upgrade the X-Reader, throughout the world by exploring. However, this guide will inform you about four locations to collect them if you haven’t found any.

The X-Reader Upgrades

You should start byreviewing all the items you requireto upgrade the entire X-Reader.

Key Item Sensor

You won’t initially have access to all the areas with the items.Once you reach Yesterdale, you can fully collect everything to upgrade the X-Reader.

Upgrading the Treasure Sensor And Sense Analysis

The Treasure Sensorlets you know when you approach containers and relics. The Sense Analysis informs you of how enemies can detect you; if the Sense Analysis icon is an eyeball, they’ll attack you if they see you. If you see multiple circles, they’ll attack if they hear you instead.

To craft both of these upgrades, you can find all the materials in theVermilion Woods.

All the materials you can collect are randomized, so you should return to the area later if you don’t have enough. As for enemies, they’ll spawn in the same spots, but if you defeat them all, you’ll need to return later.

6 Flake Crystals

Fast-travel to theSpringside Camp Rest Spot. Go northeast, and you’ll find acorns in the area, which mark Flake Crystals.

2 Twin Generators

Start at the Atattra’s Rampart Landmark. Search southbetween the Colony Gamma and Colony 5 Wreckageto find cogs that have Twin Generators.

5 Shining Ellook Antlers

Travel to the Shulvae Spliner Landmark. Head southeast andyou’ll encounter Olkort Ellooks. Defeating them will give you Shining Ellook Antlers.

Ether Cylinder

Start at theBattlefield Camp Rest Spot. Travel east, and you’ll come across the Ether Channel.

Upgrading The Weakness Sensor And Arts Analysis

With the Weakness Sensor, you’ll discoverwhich Arts and positions enemies are weak against. The Arts Analysis will let you know when you’re in the correct position to get the extra effect from your Arts. As for this section,you’ll find everything in the Aurora Shelf.

6 Fluid Crankers

Go to theElevator, Upper Landing Landmark. Travel a bit north, and you’ll encounter cogs with the Fluid Crankers.

2 Nebula Fossils

Travel further north of the Elevator, Upper Landing Landmark.Look around the Ragrinar Passage areaand pick up any fossils you find.

3 Painted Totem Boards

Go west of the Ragrinar Passageand look for the Tirkin Totem. You’ll need to defeat it, though the Tirkins nearby will attack you. Ensure you take out the Tirkins first since they’ll attack you relentlessly. Once you do, you can take out the Totem and collect the Painted Totem Boards.

First Ether Cylinder

Start at theElevator Landing Camp Rest Stopand go east. You’ll encounter the Ether Channel near a tree.

Second Ether Cylinder

Go to theAtattra Access Elevator and travel west.You’ll find it near the wall, on a cliff.

Third Ether Cylinder

Return to the Atattra Access Elevator andtake a few steps to the eastto find an Ether Channel.

Upgrading the Key Item Sensor

The Key Item Sensor informs youwhen you approach an essential item you’ll need.You’ll find everything in Yesterdale, and you won’t need any Ether Cylinders for this one.

6 Rabbit Diodes and 1 Rainbow Zirconia

A collects Twin Generators to use for the X-Reader in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed.

Fast-travel to the Planada Siq Landmark. Head east and look throughout this area for cogs. Both Rabbit Diodes and Rainbow Zirconia are found as cogs on the ground, though Diodes are more common than Zirconia.

4 Shoox Flower Whiskers

Go to the Command Center.Head east and enter the waterfrom the Ruined Tower Square. A group of Tilko Shoox will swim through the water, so catch up to them and fight them. If you’re having trouble catching them, lock onto one andpress the right stick in to dashtoward the monster. Each one will drop Shoox Flower Whiskers after you defeat them.

How To Upgrade Your X-Reader

Head to any Rest Spot in the game to upgrade your X-Reader. You must come across them to progress through the game, sofast-travel to any of them, select the X-Reader option, hover over the upgrade you want, and hold down the A button. Once you perform the upgrade, it’ll automatically apply to your X-Reader.
