Last night, Aspyr confirmed what many of us had already suspected:DLC for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 on Switch has been cancelled. This DLC would have ported the huge restored content mod to console for the first time, allowing players onSwitchto experience KOTOR 2 the way the original devs intended. Now, amidst pushback from fans, one of the creators of this mod has rushed to Aspyr’s defence, suggesting this isn’t the studio’s fault the DLC was canned.
Zbyl2, one of the modders who created The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification which was meant to be KOTOR 2’s DLC, left this statement ona threadregarding the cancellation, responding to disappointed fans. Here, they said that Aspyr “did nothing wrong,” throwing his support behind the developer that has come under a lot of fire recently - and even got booted off the remake of the first KOTOR game.

“The TSLRCM team won’t have any updates for you so please don’t message them for any information on the status of the DLC,” reads a message from the entire modding team. “We are in the same boat that you all are.”
Zbyl2, however, didn’t want to leave it there and responded with his own message: “That’s a boring statement. Here’s my actual take […] Aspyr did nothing wrong. Quote me on that. Shame it ended the way it did.”
While not giving us a clear version of events, it’s clear that Zbyl2 doesn’t want anyone to believe that Aspyr decided to scrap the DLC out of malice, or sought to lie to buyers when the KOTOR 2 Switch port was announced. This is only speculation, but this statement could be implying that the decision was out of Aspyr’s hands, perhaps even made by Embracer Group, which owns the developer.
In any case, it’s been a rough few months for Aspyr. The first sign of disaster came in July of last year, when it was reported thatthe KOTOR remake had been hit with an indefinite delay. This came as a demo of the game apparently failed to impress internally, leading to two directors losing their jobs at Aspyr. Later in the year, it was revealed that Aspyr had been removed from the project altogether, withdevelopment now moved over to Saber Interactive.
While the development of the KOTOR remake will now continue with Saber, it seems that this is the end of KOTOR 2’s support on Switch. With the mod DLC now cancelled, anyone playing on this platform will have an inferior experience, since many fans caution against playing the game without TSLRCM installed, even if it’s your first playthrough.
