Everybody 1-2-Switch has been announced. The 1-2-Switch sequel was known to be in development and was reported to be pretty awful according to early playtests–so much so that Nintendo wasn’t sure what to do with it.For those who have already blocked theSwitchlaunch title from your memory, 1-2-Switch came bundled with the Switch when it first went on sale in 2017. The game made extensive use of the Joy-Cons' motion controls, often pitting two players against one another in a series of minigames that included cowboy shootouts or cow-milking competitions.Related:In Defence of 1-2 Switch, Nintendo’s Most Maligned GameReviews for 1-2-Switch were decidedly mixed, largely because there was no single-player game, most minigames were limited to two players, and once the initial novelty of the motion controls wore off, there wasn’t a lot left to keep a player’s interest. 1-2-Switch sold well because it was bundled with the Switch, and in February 2022, we found outNintendo greenlit the sequel.

A few months later, reports surfaced that the sequel wasbeing referred to internally as “horseshit.“That’s mostly due to the game’s new Jackbox-like host called Horse, who is just a man with a microphone wearing a horse mask. However, playtesters reportedly also had harsh feedback for the game, calling it boring and tedious rather than fun for the whole family.

Everybody 1-2 Switch Nintendo Players

At one point, Nintendo was concerned over whether it could even charge players for the sequel at all let alone the full $60 price. There was some consideration given to releasing it as a free game similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Animal Cross: New Horizon’s DLC.

It seems that Nintendo eventually decided to sell Everybody 1-2-Switch at half-price. Pre-orders for the sequel were announced today at the low price of $29.99. It’s notable that Nintendo hasn’t played this announcement up in a Direct showcase or even bothered to give it a trailer.

“Grab some Joy-Con controllers or smart devices for team-based games that are easy to set up and feature everything from balloons to aliens, and more,” reads the game’sstore page listing. “People at your next party can get moving and show off their teamwork in this multiplayer mashup.”

Nintendo didn’t say how many minigames are in Everybody 1-2-Switch, but the first game had a grand total of 28. Adding the option to use your phone is new, as is opening these games up to more than two players. And, Nintendo adds, “Many games have several variations that change up the rules or add extra challenge!”

Everybody 1-2-Switch arrives on June 30.
