Last week, Konami revealed that the upcomingMetal Gear Solid 3remake will"star the original voice characters", which many took to mean that the studio is bringing back the actors to reprise their roles with new recordings. However, Konami’s head of communications Tommy Willimas has clarified that it’s simply reusing the original game’s voice lines with no changes.
This was revealed toThe Vergeafter confusion spilt out among fans. The wording left room for interpretation, and given that recent remakes likeFinal Fantasy 7andResident Evil 4not only recorded all-new lines but with new actors and dialogue to boot, it seemed most likely that Konami meant the original actors were returning.

Given thatthe reveal trailer at the PlayStation Showcasewas entirely CGI and showed no in-game footage, we don’t know how the voice lines will sound. Konami likely has access to the uncompressed versions so that the quality is better than it was on the PS2, but it did state that it will be making no changes, so it’s unclear if that means no fine-tuning.
Since Metal Gear Solid 3’s remake is using the original voice lines, that means we already know who is playing who. David Hayter is Naked Snake, Jim Piddock is Major Zero, Heather Halley is Para-Medic, James Mathis III is Sigint, Lori Alan is The Boss, Neil Ross is Colonel Volgin, Josh Keaton is Ocelot, Gregg Berger is The Pain, Michael Bell is The Fear, J. Grant Albrecht is The End, Richard Doyle is The Fury, David Thomas is The Sorrow, Brian Cummings is Sokolov, Jim Ward is Director Granin, Charlie Schlatter is Major Raikov, Richard McGonagle is President Johnson, and Jesse Corti is Commander.
However, while the original voice lines will be used, therefore keeping the original voice actors,Hideo Kojima is not involved in the remake. Konami clarified as much yesterday when talking more about the project’s development. As for who is working on it, Konami stated that it’s taking a “central role” with assistance from Virtuos who has previously worked onThe Outer Worlds,Outriders,Final Fantasy 12,Dark SoulsRemastered,BioShock: The Collection, andPUBG.
As for the future of the series, Konami spoke yesterday about remaking other MGS titles. It claimed that itchose Metal Gear Solid 3 due tofan demand and that if it sees a similar desire for other games in the series to be remade, it’ll pursue them. Essentially, if you want more Metal Gear Solid remakes, ask. But fans already are, as many are hoping to see the series remade in chronological order.
