An update to the officialMortal Kombat 1website has introduced character bios for all of the fighters that have been revealed so far, confirming a few fan theories and revealing some interesting new details.

One of the biggest things that sets Mortal Kombat 1 apart from the rest of the series is that it acts as a timeline reset, which changes the backgrounds and goals of most of its characters. We’ve seen some of this through the story trailer andcharacter intros that play before a match begins, butan update to the Mortal Kombat website has given us more information through a set of new character bios.

Let’s start off with the creator of this new universe - Liu Kang. His bio doesn’t say much new, but it does tease that he’ll be going up against an enemy he “could never have anticipated”, which seems to imply that it’s not someone as obvious as Shang Tsung. Next on the list is Sub-Zero, who we know from character intros to be Bi-Han and not Kuai Liang. We also know from his bio that he’s already the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, and that he’s aiming to make them one of the “great nations” of Earthrealm.

Scorpion’s bio reveals that he’s a “revered warrior” of the Lin Keui, confirming yet again that he and Sub-Zero are in the same clan. The rest of the bio doesn’t say much, but it does tease that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are going to have to fight eventually and that history is likely to repeat itself. Next up is Kitana, the princess of Outworld. Beyond that confirmation, there’s not much new here, although it’s clarified once again that her and Mileena are sisters and both heirs to the throne.

Everyone’s favourite movie star Johnny Cage is next, giving us a first look at his default outfit, complete with an iconic pair of sunglasses. Johnny might have seemed successful in this universe, but his bio reveals that he’s once again falling into obscurity and looking to fight to bring himself back to fame. Meanwhile, Kenshi’s bio confirms that he’s now part of a group that resembles the Yakuza, but that he wants to bring his family’s name to justice and walk his own path, something he needs Sento to do.

Kung Lao’s bio doesn’t add much to his character, only reiterating that he’s from a humble farming background this time around, but his desire to be remembered does at least suggest that he’s still got a bit of an ego. More interesting is Mileena, who is confirmed once again to be the heir to the Outworld throne, which suggests that Sindel is alive and well. It’s also revealed that Mileena’s disease is named Tarkat, a clear reference to her Tarkatan origins in the past.

Finally, we have Raiden, who is confirmed to be Liu Kang’s choice for Earthrealm’s champion in this timeline. Raiden’s bio also makes it clear that he’s been a good person in this realm, even if he’s seemingly not very trained in combat. How he’s still retained his thunder powers is beyond us, though, and sadly not something the bio reveals.
