Mortal Kombat 1’s online stress has revealed that Quitalities are making a comeback from Mortal Kombat X, although they’ve now been changed to somewhat resemble Mortal Kombat Deception’s Hara-Kiris.

This weekend marks the beginning of Mortal Kombat 1’s first online stress test, which lets a select number of lucky players try out the game’s online mode and helps NetherRealm get some early feedback on the rollback netcode’s quality. Although not everyone is able to play the stress test, we do at least get to watch the gameplay and discover some new details about the game, including the fact that it’s bringing back Quitalities.

Quitalities were introduced in Mortal Kombat X as a special type of Fatality that happens when a player quits a game mid-match. Doing so would cause the sore loser to either have their head explode or see them impaled on a giant spike, serving as an embarrassing punishment for trying to cheat out of a loss.

Since Quitalities were also featured in Mortal Kombat 11, it’s not too surprising to see them once again return for Mortal Kombat 1’s online modes, but whatissurprising is that they’ve been changed around a bit. As showcased by Twitter user PNDKetchup, Quitalities now cause the offending player to snap their own neck and kill themselves, which many Mortal Kombat fans have pointed out looks a lot like Deception’s Hara-Kiri mechanic.

For those who don’t remember the 3D era of Mortal Kombat,Hara-Kiris were introduced in Deceptionas a way to let losing players have the last laugh and perform a Fatality on themselves. They were a lot more involved in that game as each character had a unique animation, but a lot of them did feature characters breaking their own necks, which is one reason why the Quitality in Mortal Kombat 1 is being compared to them.

Sadly, it looks like the animation is the same for all characters, as footage from various players witnessing a Quitality shows that everyone on the roster snaps their own neck when they lose. It seems that each character does have a few unique voice lines for when a Quitality occurs, though, which is a nice improvement from the past two games.

For example,as showcased by Redditor odie1441 on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, when Kitana wins after a Quitality is activated, she says, “That was fan…tastic”. Liu Kang is a little more brutal about it, telling the other player that their creation was a mistake or that their future is now history.
