Mortal Kombat 1might have purposefully replaced teabagging with taunts, but that hasn’t stopped some players from figuring out a way to do it while moving.
One surprising detail to come out about Mortal Kombat 1 while it was playable at Summer Game Fest Play Dayswas that NetherRealm Studio has introduced a taunt button for each character. Rather than having a dedicated button to taunt, players activate it by crouching four times in a row. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this is essentially ensuring that players can no longer teabag their opponent, but it seems that wasn’t enough.

Over the past few days, Mortal Kombat 1’s online stress test has gone live, letting a select number of lucky players get their hands on the game for the first time to try out four of the characters in online battles. While most of us aren’t able to play the game right now, lots of gameplay videos have been shared around, giving us a better look at combos, character interactions, and, sadly, some creative players finding a workaround for the lack of teabagging.
As showcased by Twitter user TQT1995, there’s a smart way of getting around the new taunt button and dunking on the other fighter. Instead of just crouching over and over again, it seems that players can now teabag by quickly swapping between crouching and moving forward, essentially causing them to shuffle forward while they teabag. Sure, it looks a little stupid and is more like wavedashing than teabagging, but you have to respect the fact that players have already found a workaround in less than 24 hours of playtime.
It’s also pretty funny that NetherRealm’s attempts to remove teabagging from Mortal Kombat has essentially turned it into a skill check, which will probably only ensure that more players are doing it.Considering how many videos arestillbeing shared of Mortal Kombat 11 players teabagging in online matches, it’s clearly something that the community wants to keep doing. More power to them, I guess?
I can’t believe I’m brainstorming for the teabagging community here, but there’s another workaround for those desperate to dunk - since activating the taunt requires four consecutive crouches in a row, you could simply just press it three times, move slightly, and then do it again. Hey, it’s not quite as elegant as the new dashing method, but it certainly works just as well. Or we could just all respect each other when playing online andnotteabag each other, right?
